Magnesium is at the top of the list of minerals that you could need if you have a desire to eat a piece of cake or eat several pieces of candy when you normally wouldn't take a second look at these foods. Women can sometimes attribute a loss of magnesium during the menstrual cycle, which is why many women crave chocolate when they are cycling.

2. Muscle Cramps

Low magnesium levels can present as muscle cramps, especially in the legs. Your muscles might feel tight and sore, similar to what you would feel after exercising. If you frequently experience cramps in your legs, then you should consider going to your doctor to have bloodwork done to look at your magnesium levels as well as levels of other essential minerals in your body.

3. Inability To Sleep

Those late nights that you just can't seem to get to sleep could mean that your magnesium levels are low. Magnesium is essential for the relaxation of your brain. Combined with the muscle cramps that you might experience in your legs, a lack of magnesium can lead to many sleepless nights until you increase the amount of magnesium in your body.

4. Osteoporosis

If you let your magnesium levels continue to stay low, then you could begin to see issues with bone disease in your body. You could be at a greater risk of fracturing a bone. When there is a lack of magnesium, then calcium levels can also be impacted.

5. Stress, Anxiety, And Depression

When there is enough magnesium in your body, then you can relax and deal with stress easier than if the levels are lower. You'll probably begin to have headaches as well if magnesium levels aren't increased to a point where they are healthy.

8. Acid Reflux

When you eat food, it can sometimes come back up in the esophagus along with stomach acid. This is called acid reflux. It can often result in heartburn. As you increase the levels of magnesium in your body, your stomach will begin to get coated so that the stomach acid and food that you eat don't come back up, which means that you can enjoy your meals once again.

9. Constipation

If your magnesium levels aren't increased, then you could experience constipation as the digestive system can't relax as it needs to in order for you to have a proper bowel movement.
