There is a lot more to singing than just having a good voice. It takes stage presence, connecting with your audience, and not being too shy to do whatever it takes to convey the message of the song you’re singing. But when you sing a duet, you suddenly have another person you must depend on to help you deliver the emotion, and it can either be touching and romantic, or awkward and painful to watch.
When two singers connect, you can feel it, and this was exactly the case for Kane Brown and Lauren Alaina.

Kane and Lauren have a long history together. The pair first met when they were 12 and 13 at Lakeview Middle School in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. Though they both pursued country music and gained stardom, they took very different paths. Lauren competed in the tenth season of American Idol while Kane pioneered his own career on social media.
The pair recorded a song together called “What Ifs,” which is about wondering what would happen if you acted on your feelings. The song quickly became a chart-topper and earned the duo a Vocal Event of the Year nomination at the 2018 American Country Music Awards.
Not bad for two old friends!
In addition to being nominated, Kane and Lauren performed “What Ifs” live, which has left people talking. Their incredible vocals and chemistry would make you think they’re a couple in real life, but the reality is actually quite the opposite! They are each in happy relationships with other people, which is a testament to their talent.
