1. Never shop hungry

When you go to the grocery store while hungry, your eyes are bigger than your stomach. Often you end up buying unhealthy snacks to satiate your appetite quickly that you may not have bought or eaten otherwise. So from now on before you go to the grocery store, you should write a list of everything you need. Make a rule for yourself to only buy items from the list, so that all of those unhealthy snacks don't have as much power over you.

2. Small packs

If you cannot live without sweets, that is okay. However, do not buy a giant pack of them! I know it can be enticing to buy the larger packs because of the price, but your body will thank you when you only bring the small pack home. Remember: you can treat yourself, but by following this rule, you don't run the risk of losing control.

3. Don't have a personal candy store

If you always have candy, chips, and cookies at your house, you will be tempted to graze on your stash. If you want to lose weight, it is best to not stock up on sweets.

4. Avoid processed foods

If you want to lose weight and become more healthy, you should no longer allow highly processed foods to be a part of your diet. They often contain a lot of fat, sugar, and preservatives. Also the ingredient list or the other information on the packaging is often not clear or even misleading. If you cook for yourself, you will always know exactly what ingredients are in your food and be happy knowing what you are putting into your body.

5. Cook with less fats

Avoid using spreadable fats, such as butter or margarine, when you cook or fry. They usually contain a lot of saturated fat and do not offer a lot of nutritional value. Instead use healthy oils like nut oils, coconut oil, and olive oil. These are healthy and give your food more flavor and a delicious aroma.

6. Use pots and pans with a coating

If you use pots and pants with a ceramic or teflon coating, you can use no or only a little fat while cooking. This will save you a lot of calories in the long run.

7. Eat less cold cuts and sausages

Sausages often contain many additives and are high in calories. When you are buying meats, opt for high-quality, low-fat options, such as poultry. Fish is also a good choice as they contain many valuable nutrients. If you do not want to give up sausage, choose instead a lean cut of ham.

8. Low-fat dairy products

If you like to drink milk or eat other dairy products, reach for the low-fat options. You will save a lot of calories and still enjoy the taste. Always check the nutrition facts before you buy yogurt, cheese, and other dairy products to see how much fat it has and which additives it contains.

9. Avoid cream

Dairy products like cream and Crème-Fraîche are both very tasty, but they contain large amounts of fat. You can substitute cream in some of your favorite dishes with milk and using sour cream or yogurt for salads and dips is still very good.

10. Avoid breaded and fried foods

Eating breaded and fried foods can be a real calorie trap, because you never know how much of the frying oil stayed on your food. Try instead to roast your foods with oil, because you have better control of how much fat you add to your food. And, of course, the oven is always a good choice for making french fries.
