In 2012, Pauline Potter earned the Guinness World Record as the heaviest woman alive, weighing in at a staggering 700 pounds. But on Jan. 24, 2022, the 61-year-old stunned fans when she underwent a remarkable transformation.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), obesity remains a significant public health concern in the United States, with nearly 42.4% of American adults classified as obese in 2017-2018.

The title of “World’s Fattest Woman” shocked Pauline, but it was a distinction she and her ex-husband, Alex Potter, held in high regard. And after her appearance on TLC’s “My 600-lb Life,” Pauline gained widespread recognition.

Pauline and Alex married on Valentine’s Day of 2003 after being in an online relationship for a year. Alex weighed just 154 pounds but had a thing for bigger women and loved to feed her. As a result, Pauline started to put on even more weight.

In a 2012 interview with Mirror, Pauline reflected on her then-husband’s role in her weight gain. She explained: “Alex encouraged me to eat –whatever I wanted. He would make huge meals of turkey and roast –potatoes and pile it on my plate, because he loved my size, I set a goal to reach (700 pounds), to make sure I was even bigger for him.”

However, according to Dr. Chris Steele, the former resident doctor for ITV’s “This Morning,” nothing is endearing about this toxic pattern.

He explained: “At (700 pounds), Pauline weighed more than her age at 47 and she is dicing with death. Anyone who is that overweight faces huge –potential health problems.”

Alex eventually ended the marriage, leaving Pauline to fend for herself and her 17-year-old son Dillon, whom she had to rely on for almost everything:

“My son has to help me when there are areas I can’t reach,” she lamented.

“I have a walk-in bath and I sit on a stool with a flexible shower head on a lead. There’s a lot of work involved. With lots of rolls of flesh you can get infection in the folds. To prevent this, I wash every day, dry myself thoroughly and then rub corn starch into the folds around my stomach and behind my knees," she added.

Pauline also struggled to get around without Dillon and used a mobility scooter to help her go out to shop. This, however, came with its own set of setbacks. She explained:

“When I’m out on my scooter, I see people staring and laughing and sometimes taking photos.”

She also revealed that she received hate comments:

“Occasionally I get nasty comments. I try to rise above it, but I feel upset for Dillon. I know he feels embarrassed, and I worry what his friends think.”

In 2022, Pauline regained control over her health and lost 500 pounds, landing her at her lowest weight. In a rare Instagram photo, she highlighted her massive weight loss transformation, captioning the post:

“I’m proud to say that now I’m down to 223 pounds, it feels so great to be able to not be reliant on someone else to do even the littlest things for me.”

Fans continued to offer support, cheering her on through every milestone. An admirer wrote:

“What an amazing transformation and inspiration you are, you look amazing!!”

Another one expressed their pride:

“I’m so proud of you. You look beautiful. Hugs.”

Many netizens shared comments expressing their support and offering congratulations to Potter. One fan commented:

“You look great! What an accomplishment!”
