Woman Who Despises Her Daughter-In-Law Intentionally Wore White Outfit To The Wedding But Was Disgraced By Own Son Instead

The relationship dynamics between mothers-in-law (MILs) and their daughters-in-law (DILs) have often bred controversial conversations across families. There have been stories depicting the rivalry, differences of opinion and other sensitive issues between mothers and their sons’ wives. However, things could turn unpleasant when the rivalry breeds hostility between the two parties.
In 2021, a Redditor opened up about what transpired during his stepson’s wedding due to his wife’s animosity toward the bride. The Redditor, who appeared to have deleted his account on the app, revealed that his wife disliked her daughter-in-law so much that her choice of outfit for the wedding sparked drama. The butterfly effect of her actions ended up with her son staging a retaliation.
The Redditor gave a brief insight into his wife’s personality, noting that they had a great relationship as a couple, but she could get really overbearing when it came to other people. The original poster (OP) started his story by noting that he loved his wife. He included, “She is the best thing that ever happened to me." However, he continued:
"She is also not a super nice person, and can be something of a bully. Her son got married recently and she hates the bride, no actual reason, just hates her."
The Redditor continued that his wife despised her DIL and planned to spite her on her big day. The MIL was so hellbent on expressing her dislike that she constantly voiced what she planned to do. The OP revealed:
"She kept joking about wearing white to the wedding, and the poor bride who doesn't know her very well, though(t) she was just joking."
Across cultures, there has been an unspoken rule that the couple should be honored to be the only ones in white outfits.
This means the traditional wedding dress and an optional white outfit for the husband. The OP relayed that everyone thought his wife was joking with her threats, but it did not take long for them to find out otherwise.
The Redditor shared what transpired on the wedding day. He wrote, "She wore a floor length white lace gown to the wedding, just to be a b**ch." The Redditor added that he warned his wife about it. He shared that he told her "she was making herself look crazy" and wearing white to her son's wedding was a terrible idea.
Still adamant about goading her daughter-in-law, the OP's wife went ahead with her plan anyway. The bride was disheartened when she sighted her mother-in-law in a white floor-length dress and "teared up a little."
He added that this incident came after the duo had a lot of "bad blood between them." Although there was no particular reason for such behavior toward her daughter-in-law, the OP's wife was not moved by her DIL’s tears to change her outfit. Fortunately, the groom was quick to come to her rescue. The Reddit user wrote that his stepson also embarrassed his mother on the wedding day.
The OP further explained that the groom bribed his wife's nephews during the reception to assist him in embarrassing his mother. One of the nephews was to distract her, and when she got up to play with him, the OP penned:
"... the other one put the chocolate frosting off of a cupcake on her seat. Honestly I didn't say anything, because I told her ahead of time that she was going to deserve whatever she got."

The Redditor continued that his wife did not notice she sat on chocolate frosting and her dress was stained, and he didn’t inform her. He wrote that she sat in it for hours until her son walked up to her and said something. The Reddit user added:
"Somehow she isn't mad at him, isn't mad at the kids, but is furious with me and says that I should have told her, and I am supposed to be on her side."
The OP also wrote that when he thought the drama was over, the following day, his stepson posted a picture of his wife on social media with a clear background view of his mother's big stain, and his wife was mad at him again.
Other Reddit users took to the comment, delving into the matter. There were diverse opinions as they pointed out who they felt was at fault. A user wrote that the OP should not have attended the wedding with his wife. They added, "What she did doesn’t just make her look crazy, it’s something that a lot of people would cut contact with a parent over and be justified in doing so."
They continued:
“NTA for letting her dress get frosting on it. But Y T A for not actually standing up to her at all and leaving the responsibility on literal children to put a grown a** woman in her place.”
Another social media user berated the OP: “And you should have warned your son and husband about your wife wearing white so he could address that. You’re an AH for not giving a heads up about that.”
