Woman Survives Car Crash With Semi-Truck, Crawls Out of Window
Nov 20, 2021 by apost team
Sometimes in life, there are things that happen that are unexplainable and can only be described as miracles. One of these occurrences happened in November 2021 after a woman's car was flattened and folded in on itself after being hit by a semi-truck from behind. The car was completely crushed, but the 46-year-old woman was somehow still able to crawl out of the window after the semi-truck was moved and only sustained minor injuries.
The accident occurred in Mt. Vernon, Washington, on the Skagit River Bridge. The car in front of the woman had begun to slow down, so she followed suit, but the semi-truck behind her did not and hit her car with such force that it pulled the car underneath it, folding it in half, and landed with the front of the semi-truck on top of the car. Witness Mike DeWitt said that he assumed no one would be able to survive a crash of that magnitude, but the woman was heard calling for help as first responders rushed to the scene.
Trooper Rocky Oliphant reported that he had never seen anything like this in his 14-year career. Photos of the crash show the woman's red Nissan Altima completely folded and flattened, with no clear view of the window she was able to escape out of. It is a wonder that she was able to survive what could have been a deadly car crash with no broken bones or internal injuries, only complaining of her head and ribs hurting. Keep reading to learn more about this accident and the woman's miraculous survival.

Trooper Oliphant posted photos of the crash on Twitter and said: "There's really not a word to describe this collision. Miraculously believed to be minor injuries. The car was struck from behind, folded the car in half, and the semi came to rest on top of the car. In my 14 year career, I have never seen anything like it."
He continued: "Both NB and SB lanes were closed due to the collision being on the bridge and a person still in the vehicle that was resting under a semi-truck. Traffic was causing the bridge to move and the semi was unstable."
A tow truck was brought to the scene and it was able to lift the semi-truck off of the woman's car. He added to his post on Twitter: "I'm seeing a lot of questions about how she got out of the car. After the tow truck lifted the front end of the semi off the car, she was able to get out on her own power."
First responders were surprised to hear a voice coming from inside the flattened car. Oliphant described to ABC7 News, "He walked up, he walked around the car and he heard, 'Help!' and he said, 'Oh my goodness.'" After the truck was lifted there was a gap where the driver's window used to be and the woman was able to climb out.
Oliphant also said the driver of the semi-truck was cited with following too closely. The trooper shared, "It is nothing short of a miracle in my opinion, I don't know how she survived this. There is no explanation to why she's alive, let alone suffer minor injuries."
