As a pet owner, you will never let any sort of harm come to your pet. Be it a small injury that causes some surprise and minimal pain, such as accidentally stepping on a tail or paw, or a bigger injury, pet owners are always ready to help their furry friends in any way they can. This was the case for one Twitter user, @Shannoncooperox, whose pet cat was doused in water by a 13-year-old boy.
There are different ways that people would have addressed this issue; some may have scolded the teen, some may have approached his parents, and others may have ignored the event, believing the teen was merely just acting out. However, Shannon reacted in a "tit for tat" approach and took a basin of water to the 13-year-old to teach him a lesson.
However, Shannon's actions have led to a debate online about whether she was right in her approach. Some people were worried that she herself may get in trouble for what could be considered "assault" while others believed she was wrong to treat a child so badly. The latter group was of the belief that people should let children be, and that there was no malicious harm done to the cat.
There have been different sides to the debate, but Shannon has found a lot of support for what she did as well. She also provided an update to her original post, saying that the neighbors and she were on good terms despite what happened. Read on to know more about Shannon's tweet.
In her original tweet, Shannon wrote, "My 10 year old neighbour just threw a cup of water over my cat who was sitting on the fence minding his own business n laughed so I threw a basin of water over him from the window and now his dad is at my door going mental but I don’t see the problem, don’t touch my cat."
Due to the fact that she wrote the boy was 10 years old in the first tweet, the heated debate revolved around the fact that an adult had surprised a child, and this was frowned upon according to Bored Panda. Twitter user @wet_wasabi wrote, "People defending this clearly haven't surrounded themselves by children and don't understand the development they are still going through. The child is still growing and understanding consequences. How could a FULLY DEVELOPED adult act like a 10 year old who is still learning?"
Shannon also found a lot of support for what she did. User @jooniehobi18 wrote, "At 10 I used to stare at cats with my father in awe cause I couldn't have pets and at 3 I used talked to plants & trees cause my father told me they are living and feel hurt if you pluck leaves. What that kid need is better parenting."
Shannon posted an update to her story and addressed other tweets by writing, "people r so mad over this, the kid and his dad were laughing about it today, we r friends (also might I add the dad never knew what his son done which is why he was mad to begin with) also the kid is 13 he rlly looks [expletive] 10 lmao."
