Tiny homes have become all the rage in the last few years and there is a multitude of reasons why they're popular. From saving on space to portability, the reasons one might choose to live in a tiny home vary greatly for each individual.

In this video from December 2019, Penny, a 77-year-old woman living near Newport, Oregon, shows off her tiny home, after selling off half her possessions in order to live a much lighter lifestyle.

Penny explains that she came down from Alaska to live near Newport, Oregon in her tiny home, nicknamed "Silver Girl." Made of gorgeous natural pine that's untreated, the materials are beneficial for Penny's allergies.

While most tiny homes compromise on the size of regular household items to accommodate the small size, Silver Girl was specifically made to house some regular-sized features, including a large sink—the biggest you can get for a tiny house— a regular-sized fridge, and more bench space than other tiny houses. The kitchen also features a gas stove and oven, as Penny loves to bake pies.

Silver Girl also has a lot of storage room, with bookshelves placed in various parts of the house, including under the stairs leading up to the loft. The tall ceilings of the house lend an airy feel that undoubtedly help add to the sense of space inside.

Keeping the usual household fittings regular sized-extends to the bathroom, which has a full-sized shower, sink, and toilet. Here, natural cedar wood has been used instead of pine, as it's a wet wood that suits the damp bathroom setting better.

Peggy's bedroom also benefits from having higher ceilings, adding to the sense of space. But that doesn't mean the tall ceilings haven't been put to good use with a loft. Up the stairs is a second bed, presumably for guests, as well as a dog treadmill! Penny explains that she can't take her beloved pet for as many walks as they require, so she has a dog treadmill for them to get their daily exercise in. It comes in handy during rainy weather too.

Additionally, Penny's windows are awning windows, which open from the bottom outwards, allowing her to also have her windows open when it's raining as well. As Penny had the house built to her liking, she included all the features that she wanted, such as lots of electrical outlets.

Penny explains in the video that while she loves Silver Girl, she is eager to sell her tiny home or swap it for another one, as her age is making her use of the loft harder to continue. That said, she proudly says in the video that she loves her tiny house and that she "wouldn't want to live in a regular house anymore ever."

Tiny homes are becoming more and more popular and it seems that once you go tiny, you'll never go back!
