Woman Sneakily Brought Her Grandmother’s Dog Disguised As A Baby To The Hospital To Cheer Her Up

People often depend on emotional support from their family, friends, and, sometimes, their pets. Many have adopted dogs, cats and other kinds of domesticated animals as their lifelong companions, and seeing them during trying times can give one a surge of joy and motivation. 

In today's day and age, service animals have become integral to people living alone or independently. Most of the time, these service animals can help their owners and companions in life-and-death situations. As much as these animals need to be accessible to their owners, some establishments prohibit them because of certain factors. 

A touching story from 2017 resonated with people on social media deeply. A woman posted a series of photos on Twitter and shared that her grandmother was in the hospital and wanted to see her dog. 

“She’s had this dog forever, and this dog is her baby,” Shelby Hennick told Inside Edition. “She was small enough to fit in the palm of her hand.”

However, the hospital prohibited bringing such animals into the building because of the health risks they could pose to the patients or to the animal themself. However, Hennick believed that for her grandmother to see her dog Patsy was something she needed. 

Service animals are allowed in the hospital, but the necessary documentation must be provided to allow entry.

In order to bring Patsy in to see her grandma, Hennick devised a plan to break the dog into her grandmother’s room. She conspired with her mom to smuggle Patsy in, wrapped like a baby in a blanket. When they entered, the hospital staff just waved at them because they knew who they were already. 

"Patsy was quiet the whole time and actually kept licking my arm," she told Buzzfeed.

After successfully bypassing the hospital staff, Hennick reunited her grandma with Patsy.

"Patsy kept crying and couldn't get close enough," she recalled to Buzzfeed about the heartwarming encounter.

Speaking to Inside Edition, Hennick’s plan made her grandmother “a lot happier.” 

"She wasn’t feeling very good, and it made her more relaxed. She did go home the next day. Medically, it didn’t have anything to do with Patsy, but I’m still thinking it had a little bit to do with her."

When Hennick posted the encounter on social media, she didn’t think it would garner such strong reactions from people. Some pointed out that what she did was reckless because it could have compromised everyone’s safety, but Hennick explained that Patsy was clean and had the necessary vaccines. 

The encounter moved many people to tears on social media.

“I love this so much omg. Before my papa passed, nothing made him happier or more vibrant than a visit from his pupper in the hospital☺️♥️♥,” a fan shared. 

“When my daughter was in the hospital., the one bright spot was when therapy dog visited. Animal lovers need fur-babies in order to heal. ❤🐶❤,” another commented.

“That's the sweetest thing. My dog makes me feel like the pain isn't so bad as long as he's with me. Samesies with your granny, too, I bet,” one wrote. Meanwhile, another said: “Shared this on my mom's Facebook!!! This made me cry with emotion! I wish I could have done this for my dad before he passed. 😞🙂💜.”
