If you have ever experienced a romantic breakup, you know that breaking up with someone can affect your emotions in a powerful way. An Irish woman named Amanda Teague — who now goes by Amanda Sparrow Large — is a Jack Sparrow impersonator of the “Pirates of Caribbean” franchise fame who broke up with a 300-year-old ghost pirate named Jack Teague.
According to the Washington Post, Amanda began exploring spirituality in 2010 after her 3-month-old son died of sudden infant death syndrome. She eventually found her way to claiming to have found love with a 300-year-old ghost.
Amanda had first become acquainted with Jack in 2014. She called Jack the love of her life. She explained that he had suddenly hovered over her bed and described him as looking very similar to the rendition of Jack Sparrow as portrayed by actor Johnny Depp. Jack had dark black hair and a deep tan.
In 2016, Amanda had arranged a private wedding ceremony on a boat in international waters off the coast of Ireland so that the marriage would be legal in a handfasting ceremony. Amanda then decided Teague would be her last name.
Some believed that the trauma Amanda experienced from losing her son could have “caused her to go into a dissociative, trance-like state that can facilitate dreamlike experiences.” However, Amanda explained, “If you believe in God or angels, if you believe in anything that’s not of this earthly realm, then you believe in spirit. So why would you find what happened to me beyond the realm of possibility?”
But Amanda and Jack’s marriage did not last, and Amanda eventually announced that they were splitting up in 2018.

According to the Washington Post, Amanda said she became physically ill and encountered health complications just two weeks after marrying Jack. She said that she was in excellent health before the ghost became part of her life. Amanda explained that he drained the vitality from her physical body and used her to boost his own energy.
“Obviously I was in love with Jack ... Unfortunately Jack was taking far too much energy and literally draining me and pretty much just using me for his own selfish intentions,” Amanda told Inside Edition. “He was a pirate, what he did was steal when he was alive. Now he’s stealing or draining energy, it kind of makes sense when you think about it. I can’t believe it took me this long to figure it out.”
Amanda cut ties with Jack despite his alleged threats and said she went through a “soul extraction,” which could be considered similar to an exorcism. Amanda claimed that Jack left her, and her health improved.
Amanda hoped to warn people to be careful about dabbling in New Age spiritualities. She said she was lured into it while she grieved for her son and did not expect to feel she had lost control over her own life.
“I would really say to people who are thinking about getting into this: ‘Be really, really, really careful,’” she said. “And if somebody is not telling you about the dangerous side of it, run a mile.”
Amanda added, “God isn’t going to protect me from my own stupidity, but love and light is more powerful than darkness and evil, so I do trust that god will protect me from any serious damage now that I have stepped back,” she said. “I do love him, but I love me more.”
