Woman Goes Ballistic On Blind Boyfriend For Randomly Touching Her Food At Restaurants To Ensure They’re Eating The Same Dish

Eating out with your loved ones is one of the most enjoyable things to do. The idea of not spending a lot of time in the kitchen to cook and burn yourself is also a calming thing to do.

However, one woman took to the AITA Thread on Reddit after losing it at a restaurant when her blind boyfriend kept on touching her food to ensure that they were eating the same thing.

“I'll be quick, my f26 fiance m32 is blind. We don't disagree a lot except, he always gets bothered whenever I eat different food from what he's eating when we go out. Like, if we're having dinner out and I order else, he'd instantly get upset and accuse me of treating him as less than when I just have different taste in foods,” the Original Poster, u/Alone-Panic-3630, shared on Reddit on July 30, 2023.

To keep the peace, OP admitted that she just eats what her boyfriend eats and eats out alone as an alternative to trying out the things that she wants. But since OP’s boyfriend doesn’t trust her, he will randomly touch her plate to check if they are, in fact, having the same dish. According to OP, this act has caused huge arguments between them. Since then, OP has asked her boyfriend to stop doing it, and he responded by promising not to.

At one point, OP and her boyfriend went to eat out again and ordered the same food. However, OP noted that at the time, her boyfriend looked “somewhat uncomfortable."

“I asked what was wrong and he refused to say, and before I could even grab the fork he extended his arm and his hand touched the food on my plate,” she recalled.

According to OP, her boyfriend is different when they eat at home as he has “no issue” with her eating different food. It’s just that it's a special case when they’re eating outside.

When OP’s blind boyfriend randomly touched her food again, she became livid.

“He moved quickly and started excusing what he did saying he 'just wanted to make sure...' but I lost it on him, I felt so grossed out and there was no way I could eat the food after he touched it,” OP wrote.

The boyfriend even tried to make OP drop the conversation, even emphasizing that she shouldn’t be grossed out by his hand and that she should not overreact. OP had different plans: “I grabbed his plate and told him that I was taking it as my dinner. He at first asked me to be 'rational' and give the plate back but I refused.”

After OP grabbed his boyfriend’s dinner, a fight ensued, and he left. He then started spam-texting OP and accused her of being “bitter, pathetic and childish, and robbing his dinner.”

“He went to stay with his friend who picked him up and his friend sided with him saying I was in the wrong. Even went as far as to say that I was abusing my fiance and financially controlling him when I pointed out that I was the one who paid for the food,” she went on to say on the thread.

Per OP, the problem has since been magnified, and the boyfriend already wanted an apology, but she won’t budge. Even OP’s parents have sided with the boyfriend, instructing her to have more patience with him as this was just “typical love spats” between the two of them.

Because of this fallout that OP had with her boyfriend, she began mulling over her relationship and whether or not she was in the wrong for lashing out at him. Comments on the Reddit thread were unanimous — she definitely was not!

Many made a comment on how OP’s boyfriend was incredibly controlling and manipulative as he has been policing everything OP eats.

“NTA but your fiancé is being unreasonably controlling. The fact that he wouldnt eat the plate that he touched shows he know its a disgusting thing to do,” a user said. “DO. NOT. MARRY. THIS. MAN. He WILL use his disability at every turn to make you the bad guy, seeing how controlling he is now, it probably will get 10 times worse when you're married.”

“NTA. I’m sure this isn’t the only way he tries to exercise control over you. Why do you put up with this? Do you realize how incredibly disrespectful (forget bizarre, controlling, unsanitary, selfish, etc) it is for him to touch your food to ensure you’re eating the same food as him? I can’t believe you allow that,” another commented

“NTA. Ok look his behavior is unacceptable on so very many levels. Why can't you just get what you want? How on earth does he think you're getting something else? He's not deaf too is he? Why doesn't he trust you?” someone asked

Meanwhile, one user tried to make sense of OP’s actions and asked if he was ever evaluated with obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCD). OP responded and said that he had not, but he’s “known for having trust issues due to former relationships.”

Others have also asked OP to reconsider marrying her boyfriend, as this action was a huge manifestation of how controlling he is.
