Woman From North Carolina Who Was In A Coma For Over A Week Warns Others To Get Flu Vaccine

In recent years, vaccines have been a highly politicized topic. Some people are rabidly for vaccines, no exceptions – never mind that we know that there are people for whom a shot is contraindicated. Others are rabidly against vaccines, again seemingly against all logic or reason.
Jaime and Jeremy Bowers from Alamance County have found themselves unexpectedly serving as poster children for the pro-vaccine camp. These two high school sweethearts, together since age 16, have had what is likely to be the worst Christmas of their lives after Jaime came down with the flu.
But that's just the beginning of this drama, just the tip of the iceberg, as it were. Jeremy managed to get her fever down from 103.5 to 99.5 one evening, but by the next morning she was non-responsive, reports Fox 8. She couldn't speak. She couldn't open her eyes. She was unreachable.

Jeremy took her to the hospital where she would remain for the next 10 days. She spent eight days of it in a medically induced coma. Jeremy couldn't even visit her because he also had the flu, so it wasn't safe for her to be around him. She was too weak and vulnerable to be exposed to yet more medical stress. Jaime told Fox 8 that when she came to, her doctor said to her, "You know, you almost died." This shook her to her core and she still can't get over it.
istockphotos.com/fstop123When she was finally released from the hospital, she was sent home on supplemental oxygen. She and Jeremy are determined to protect others from this deadly flu that has already killed over 40 people so far this year just in their state of North Carolina, reports The News & Observer. They are imploring people to please go get a flu shot. Jaime wouldn't wish what she has been through upon her worst enemy. She certainly doesn't wish it on you.
If you don't have a medically compelling reason to not get a flu shot, take their story to heart. Even if you do, pass this story along and let other people know that this flu strain is shaping up to be quite deadly.
If nothing else, wash your hands like crazy, avoid crowded places, and keep kids home from school if they seem sick. Call in and ask to work remotely rather than bring your germs to the office.
This year, it's not just a courtesy to not share your germs. It's potentially a matter of life or death.
