Friendships are considered beautiful and essential in every culture and state, as man is a social animal. Friendships are usually formed based on trust, shared values, and interests and typically lead to affection, love, loyalty, and social esteem. Friendships have many benefits, including physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Friendships must be positive and cooperative as well.
Friendships can start at any age or level and cross social barriers, including age and class barriers, albeit rarely. Meanwhile, the parties involved must reciprocate the feelings of love and trust for it to be a true friendship. In cases where the true feelings of one party are not mutual or reciprocal, such friendships will likely break down and lead to betrayal. Everyone wants to be surrounded by empathetic people, good listeners, positive thinkers, and people who can forgive them when they are wrong.
However, no one wants to be betrayed. Betrayals hurt when they happen but sting more when friends or loved ones are the ones backstabbing. It takes great strength to overcome betrayals, and the betrayed party may never be able to forget the pain from the disloyalty, particularly if the two-timer is unrepentant.
Unfortunately for the original poster (OP) in a similar situation, she couldn’t understand why her friend betrayed her. The woman with the username throwaway836449 accommodated her best friend, who lost her home, only to discover that her husband was having an affair with her. OP only got to find out after her friend confessed she was pregnant. OP was confused and hurt, so she turned to Reddit in 2022. Keep reading to find out the best friend’s reason for betraying OP.
A woman found out her husband impregnated her best friend while she was seven months pregnant herself, so she took to Reddit in 2022 to get some answers.
“She was my best friend since the 2nd grade,” OP shared. “We had been through everything together. My heart hurts so much.”
OP always supported her friend whenever she needed anything. OP also allowed her friend to stay with her after she couldn’t pay her rent and was kicked out.
“She looked me dead in my face and congratulated me on my pregnancy, had dinner with me and my husband every night, and even made sure she cleaned the house so I didn’t have to,” OP revealed.
Trouble started the day before OP’s post when her friend found out she was pregnant. OP shared:
"...she took a pregnancy test. Told me to sit on the couch. I was confused why she needed me to sit down but the look on her face told me everything. I asked her why."
OP's friend said she did it out of loneliness and that OP’s husband seemed “available.”
“I just left, couldn’t muster any words. I’m at a motel right now, feeling my baby kick. Husband keeps blowing up my phone, saying let’s 'talk,'" she disclosed.
OP shared that she wasn’t ready to talk and would leave the house for her husband and best friend.
“He wants her so bad they can have that baby together,” she concluded. “Years of friendship and marriage is just, gone. She’s ruined everything…my best friend ruined everything.”
OP added that she wasn’t blaming her best friend alone since her husband was at fault just as much as she was, except that her best friend’s betrayal stung more, seeing that they had known each other for far longer.

Redditors thought that OP’s friend and husband were terrible people and OP was right to leave the house for them, although some thought it was the friend and husband who ought to go.
“Can you kick them both out the house??? I’m so sorry for you, you seriously don’t deserve that kind of betrayal. Even though that it may suck now you will find that special someone in the future and live a better life then them,” someone asked.
Another person suggested, “File for divorce and child support 1st. Because the 1st to get child support gets the most. At least, that’s how it was 24 years ago in FL. Not that my ex paid it, but I was awarded the most. When his ex applied, she was awarded a lot less.”
“I’m sorry this happened to you, but I’m glad to hear you are making an escape plan. Too often people stay in a toxic situation and waste years being lied to and manipulated. I can only imagine how bad it hurts now… stay strong. Internet stranger here, rooting for you 💪🏼,” a third Redditor told OP.
Another person consoled OP, “I am so sorry. I’ve been in a similar situation minus the pregnancy and that s*** is hard to come back from. But it is completely possible. You will get through this and find the people who deserve you in their lives. I’m so so sorry dear. I wish you the best and a safe pregnancy and delivery and keep us updated if you can.”
“It’s not loneliness, it’s a power trip. She was probably envious of your life and decided to break it so she could feel powerful. Shame on her,” someone opined.
