There are addictions by different people that the public might find strange as they have never heard of them before, or they themselves would not do it as it could possibly compromise their health.

Unfortunately, this is what happened to a woman named Jennifer, who was featured in the popular TLC documentary series “My Strange Addiction” in 2013.

At the time of the filming, the woman was 26 years old, and she reportedly consumed over eight beds in two decades.

This might be shocking to some viewers, but for Jennifer, this was completely normal. She admitted in the series that she stopped eating her own mattress anymore and would only eat her mom’s because she already consumed her bed.

In the interview, the woman said she loved eating the foam without any sauces or dips as she wanted it “plain and straight up.”

At the time, she hadn't visited a medical professional yet, but she claimed that the only side effect on her body was passing gas. She also noted that whenever she consumed bed foams, they would always come out whole through her feces.

Despite her favorite snack being a mattress, Jennifer appeared to be picky on which part of the bed she would eat as she said in the series that the “good stuff” is the pillow top, then she would go down piece by piece, layer by layer, ripping the foam to consume it.

She also has limitations, as she would not eat the mattress if it smelled funny or if she had reached the springs already.

When she spoke about when she usually craves eating foams, Jennifer said it would be around 2:00 p.m. and after intimate physical activity.

Even though Jennifer never dealt with any major health problems at the time, there are a lot of risks when it comes to eating mattresses, as the documentary stated that it could lead to liver damage, intestinal blockages, and, worst, death.

Aside from possible damages to her body, it appeared that she also had to deal with her family members who were concerned about her strange habits.

“Jennifer eating my mattress is getting way out of hand, we don’t know what this mattress is doing to her. Me and my son just need to confront her today and ask her why she’s doing it, ” her mom Lynn said

Later in the show, her mom and her brother, Darius, had an intervention in the family living room, and Lynn clarified that she had no bad intentions regarding the confrontation.

“I’m not here to attack you, I’m just concerned, I don’t want anything to happen to you,” Lynn said.

Jennifer eventually agreed to see a medical professional named Dr. Robert McMahon, who was a Gastroenterologist.

The doctor was visibly shocked in the interview when the woman showed how many mattresses she would consume in a day.

McMahon eventually shared his concerns about the addiction as the foam she had been eating was not digestible. Although Jennifer only suffered from “sulfur burps,” the doctor said it was possible for her to have a hole in her intestine and a complete bowel obstruction.

In the end, Jennifer appeared to be scared of what the future might hold for her if she continued her strange addiction, as she told McMahon that she would change for the better.

The documentary series later stated that the woman had slowed down eating mattresses since filming, and she hoped to quit her addiction.
