Prince William and Princess Catherine are some of the most beloved members of the royal family. The parents of three are fan favorites in the United Kingdom and abroad, not only for their family values but also for their charity work. The Prince and Princess of Wales have been busy building a family that includes 6-year-old Prince Louis, 9-year-old Princess Charlotte and 11-year-old Prince George.
With more than 10 years of marriage under their belt, fans remain interested in all the details about the couple, both in terms of their love life and parenting. One moment royal watchers consistently await is the release of the family Christmas card, an annual affair that tends to brighten up the holidays for fans. The cards released in previous years by the Waleses tend to capture all the family members in a more relaxed fashion than is usually seen of them during public events. Fans have lapped up their gorgeous portraits year after year and remarked on how quickly their three children are growing up.
As is tradition every year, the Prince and Princess of Wales release their official Christmas card, which never fails to feature a stunning family portrait. The 2021 Christmas photo was a little different from previous years. In the previous two years, the Christmas cards had seen the family photographed in autumnal settings, while 2021’s photo was taken in the summer in front of a rock wall during a family trip to Jordan. Meanwhile, their 2022 Christmas photo showed the entire family walking in the lush outdoors on a sunny day, dressed in casual blues while holding hands.
The 2024 holiday season capped a year of challenging moments for the Wales family. Early in the year, Princess Catherine revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer and took time off from public duties to focus on her treatment and recovery. As the world rallied around the family matriarch, she delivered good news about completing chemotherapy and being declared cancer-free in September 2024. In early December, Catherine continued her tradition of hosting the fourth “Royal Carols: Together at Christmas” carol service alongside her husband, Prince William, and children George, Charlotte and Louis.
Finally, on Dec. 19, 2024, the Waleses unveiled their family Christmas portrait on social media. The photo showed the beautiful family of five sitting outdoors with their arms around one another. The boys – William, George and Louis – looked dashing in blue shirts, while Catherine was a vision in a flowy, white printed dress. Charlotte was the picture of sweetness in a white blouse and skirt, posing with her arms around her mother and brother, George.
The photo was taken from an intimate and emotional video posted to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ social media accounts in September, in which Catherine had revealed her “relief” at having “finally completed my chemotherapy treatment.” Over images of the family spending time together in a dreamy and comforting woodland setting, Catherine spoke candidly about her “complex, scary and unpredictable” cancer journey. She explained further:
“The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown. ... This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved.”
