Why I Started Waking Up At 5:30 AM Every Morning And How It Changed My Life

When someone asks if you're a morning person, do you feel the urge to laugh uncontrollably? I understand where you're coming from. I never had the easiest time getting out of bed in the morning and needed coffee to feel remotely functional. However, I knew that there was all this time in the day that I wasn't taking advantage.

That's why I decided to give waking up at 5:30 a.m. a shot. You'll see why it was worth it, with the reasons listed below.

1. More Productive

We often lament that there aren't enough hours in the day to accomplish everything we need to. The harsher reality is that there are plenty of hours, but we just aren't taking advantage of them. When you wake up early, you have access to all sorts of hidden time. Even waking up a half hour earlier can give you time to work on projects or creative pursuits.

2. Don't Have to Rush

Waking up with barely enough time to shower, drink coffee, and eat breakfast is not at all practical. Yet, so many people go through life this way. When you wake up early, you let your mornings be relaxed. You can take your time and ease into the day. This lets you take the time to really enjoy what you're doing and plan out your day. When you get to work, you can feel truly refreshed.

3. Learning Good Habits

With all this time available, you might as well make use of it. Should you have certain habits that you've been meaning to take up, the morning is the perfect time to do them. Maybe you've been wanting to exercise or read more. Then, you can put aside 10-20 minutes for just those activities. It will require discipline, but it's no more discipline than waking up earlier.

4. Getting Fit

No, you can't lose weight simply by waking up early. However, the extra time available means that you have much greater access to exercise than before. You can use the time in the morning for running, lifting weights, or a combination of different techniques. Over time, you should be impressed by how much progress you've made.

5. Appreciate Silence

If you find yourself stressed out and overwhelmed by constant noise, you could definitely benefit from waking up early. While there might be some noises from things like crickets or rainfall, those are much preferable to the sounds of traffic. It can make you feel all the more peaceful as you transition into the noisier parts of the day.

6. Better Commuting Experience

Waking up earlier doesn't mean you have to stay at home. Once all your morning obligations are taken care of, you should try heading out for work earlier. Instead of dealing with bumper-to-bumper traffic or crowded buses, you can enjoy a much more tranquil experience.

7. Better Breakfasts

You know the importance of a healthy breakfast, but it's so easy to feel like we don't have time to eat a proper meal in the morning. When you give yourself time, that's no longer an issue. You can take the time to make a wholesome breakfast that gives you the energy you need in the morning.

8. Better sleep

Waking up earlier requires discipline in when you go to sleep. If you are going to wake up at 5:30 every day, you need to have a set sleep schedule. Through consistent sleep patterns, you can wake up feeling refreshed every morning, rather than struggling to pull yourself out of bed.

Waking up early might seem impossible. While it will certainly be difficult in the beginning, the rewards will make themselves known rather quickly. Give yourself plenty of time to adapt to this new lifestyle. If you like, pass this on to your friends and loved ones who are interested in having more relaxed and productive days.
