The year 2025 began with Meghan Markle’s return to social media, where she will undoubtedly continue to offer more glimpses into her life with Prince Harry and their children.
On Jan. 1, 2025, Meghan returned with a brand-new Instagram account. She debuted her profile under the handle @meghan, marking a highly anticipated reappearance.
Her display photo reflected her timeless and effortless elegance. But on that note, have any royal family members followed the Duchess of Sussex’s account, or have they refrained from celebrating her return?
For her first post, Meghan shared a peaceful video of herself on the beach, dressed in white and writing “2025” in the sand. She wore a beautiful cream-colored Khaite Francine jersey maxi dress, priced at $980.
And for those wondering, this particular dress is no longer available! However, Khaite has launched a similar version — the “Nonya” crepe satin slip dress, which retails at $2,200 and comes in all sizes.
It’s worth noting that this comeback marked Meghan’s first time back on social media since @sussexroyal in 2020.
Harry and Meghan launched their joint account in 2019, drawing over a million followers within hours. It was a direct way for them to communicate with their audience, often posting messages directly from the couple rather than through a team.
However, on Mar. 30, 2020, the account ceased activity, following their announcement to step back from royal duties, two weeks after the COVID pandemic began.
The final post was a heartfelt goodbye letter thanking “this community” for “the support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world.”
The caption closed with: “We look forward to reconnecting with you soon. You’ve been great! Until then, please take good care of yourselves and of one another,” and was signed “Harry and Meghan.”
The @meghan account profile photo showed Meghan wearing a chic $30,000 Logan Hollowell diamond “Fortuna” tennis necklace. The black-and-white display photo showed her smiling warmly in minimal makeup, enhancing her natural beauty. Her friend, photographer Jake Rosenberg, took the portrait.
As for the first clip, Meghan was filmed running along a beach in white jeans and a flowing top before writing “2025” in the sand. And heartwarmingly, the reel was reportedly captured by Prince Harry himself.
The beach is near the family’s home in Montecito, where she lives with Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.
Meghan’s personal account, @meghan, is not following anyone and has disabled comments, marking a clear distinction from her earlier public engagements.
Now, let’s dive into the followers list. Moreover, there’s a noticeable absence of interaction between some senior royals and Meghan on Instagram.
Neither King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s @theroyalfamily account nor Prince William and Princess Catherine’s @princeandprincessofwales handle follows Meghan’s official account, @meghan. Yet, both still follow @sussexroyal, the out-of-service account Meghan and Harry once used.
Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, continue to follow @sussexroyal but not @meghan. Eugenie, who has maintained a warm relationship with the Sussexes since their departure from royal duties in 2020, is not seen following her brother-in-law, Prince William, on Instagram either.
Other family members, including Sarah Ferguson and Mike Tindall, don’t follow either @sussexroyal or @meghan. Meanwhile, Princess Beatrice, unlike her sister Eugenie, does not maintain a public Instagram profile.
Unlike the more formal accounts managed by the King, Queen, Prince William, and Princess Kate, which are likely run by professional communications teams, Eugenie, Sarah, and Mike each manage their accounts.

What might be the reason that none of the senior royals are following Meghan Markle’s new Instagram account? Could this reflect the alleged ongoing rift between the Sussexes and the rest of the British royal family? Or is it a matter of time before we see any signs of public support from them? Let us know, and then pass this along to other royal family fans!
