Whenever Your Dog Does One Of These 9 Things, It Means “I Love You”

Jan 28, 2019 by apost team

Dogs don't care if you're having a bad hair day or if you didn't get that promotion you've been after. They don't judge you if you stay out too late or spend the entire day in bed. All dogs know is that you are their person, and as long as you're around, everything is going to be okay.

It's widely believed that dogs love unconditionally, but they can't talk. So, how do we know if our dogs love us? Well, there are several ways that dogs express their love for humans.

Does Your Dog Follow You Everywhere?

A dog that loves you will follow you everywhere. It might be a bit disconcerting when your pup follows you into the bathroom, but dogs don't understand boundaries the way humans do.

If your dog can't seem to get enough of you, it's because they love you and want to spend as much time as possible by your side. Taking your dog for a leisurely walk every evening is a great way to show them the feeling is mutual.

Dogs Will Stay By Your Side When You're Not Feeling Well

Remember, your dog is a distant relative of wild wolves. Our furry companions inherited behavioral traits from their wild ancestors. If a wolf is injured, other pack members will surround him for protection. They'll also lick his wounds to speed up the healing process.

If your dog won't leave your side when you're feeling under the weather, it's because he loves you and wants to protect you while you are weak. Don't be surprised if your dog tries to lick any cuts or scrapes you have. It's not very sanitary, but he means well.

Cuddling After Meals

Dogs are motivated by food. That's why trainers use treats to encourage positive behaviors. If a dog is suddenly acting overly affectionate, he might just be hungry. If a dog wants to cuddle after he's had his dinner, it means you are more than a food source. You are his main priority.

Does Your Dog Sleep In Your Bed

If your dog sleeps in your bed, it means he trusts you. Dogs like to feel safe when they sleep. By curling up next to you, your dog is saying "I love you, and I know I'm safe when I'm with you."

If your dog starts taking up too much room in your bed, set up a dog bed on the floor next to your bed. Your pup is still close by, and you'll both get a good night's sleep.

How Does Your Dog Act When You Leave

If your dog freaks out when you leave the house, they might be suffering from separation anxiety. If your dog calmly finds a spot near a window and waits for you to return, they love you and trust that you'll come back.

Try taking your dog for a walk before you leave to reduce any anxiety they may be feeling. Turn on the television or radio before you walk out the door. Some dogs are comforted by the background noise.

Dogs That Lick Your Face

Dogs will groom one another with their tongue. If your dog licks your face, it means they consider you one of their pack, and they try to show you love and affection.

Playtime

Dogs are territorial animals. They won't share their toys with just anyone. If a dog drops a toy in front of you, it's not only because they want to play. It's also because they love you and want to share.

Do you yawn if you see another human yawn? Contagious yawns are a sign of empathy, and humans aren't the only ones to experience this phenomenon. If your four-legged friend yawns when you do, they are showing their love for you.
