Watch This Group Of Kayakers Get Up-Close And Personal With One Of The World's Largest Fish

When a group of kayakers went out off the coast of the Island of Man, they weren’t prepared for what would happen. This group came dangerously close to death when they came upon an open-mouthed shark.

Jennifer Kneale, 37, had come to the end of her day at the 7th Wave, a sailing school, when she heard about a shark sighting in Port Erin Bay.

She didn’t head to safety, however. Instead, she went off with her team of sailing instructors. They jumped into kayaks and headed towards the area to witness this amazingly rare event.

The team was able to film the shark swimming around the water with his mouth open. His slightly pointed fin caused many waves to rock the kayaks surrounding him. A crowd of boaters and paddle boarders, which also included children, watched from a distance. They couldn’t believe what they were seeing but they did not want to scare off the majestic creature.

Jen stated that they all went off to watch the shark in their kayaks because it was such an unusual event. They assembled in the bay before taking off.

She said that the shark probably liked that spot because there are a lot of plankton there that it could feed on. The shark didn’t even seem to care about the number of small boats and kayaks that were around. In fact, it often made very close passes by them.

It was later learned that the shark was relatively harmless to the human race, as it was a Basking Shark. Jen stated that all of the people who were witness to the shark followed a code known as the Basking Shark Code of Conduct, which states that all floating vessels should keep still while around any sharks.

Basking sharks are the second largest type of fish in the world. For Jen and her team, those two hours were truly amazing!
