Actress Valerie Harper sadly passed away last Friday after her long-time health battle with cancer, she was 80-years-old. Her husband Tony Cacciotti has released a message about his wife’s passing.
In a touching message posted on Valerie Harper’s Facebook page Cacciotti shared his sweet goodbye message to his spouse of almost 40 years.
“My beautiful caring wife of nearly 40 years has passed away on Friday at 10:06am, after years of fighting cancer,” the post read. “She will never, ever be forgotten. Rest In Peace, mia Valeria --- Anthony.”

Cacciotti was very candid about his decision to not put Harper in hospice care. Just last month, the devoted husband released a statement explaining his reasoning for doing so. "I have been told by doctors to put Val in Hospice care and I can’t [because of our 40 years of shared commitment to each other] and I won’t because of the amazing good deeds she has graced us with while she’s been here on earth,” his Facebook post said.

The committed husband also made sure to have kept Harper “as comfortable as possible.” He continued saying, "For those of you who have been in this position, you will totally understand that “it’s hard letting go.” So as long as I’m able and capable, I’ll be where I belong right beside her."

According to CNN, the actress was first diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009. In 2013, she was told by her doctors that she had leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, a rare complication of cancer where the illness spreads to the membranes that surround the spinal cord and brain. She was given 3 months to live. However the Mary Tyler Moore star survived for a miraculous six years.
