Meghan Markle is supporting teenage girls struggling in the aftermath of the deadly Los Angeles fires. On Jan. 13, 2025, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, visited a new relief group in Altadena, California, supporting teenagers affected by the Eaton fire.
According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the fire has spanned 14,000 acres since it began on Jan. 7 and has been 45% contained as of Jan. 15.
Meghan’s visit came after she and her husband, Prince Harry, opened their $29-million mansion in Montecito to friends and loved ones forced to evacuate due to the fires around 100 miles south.
Through the Archwell Foundation, Meghan dropped off donations at the Altadena Teen Girls Fire Recovery group, a non-profit organization founded last week by an eighth-grade girl whose school burned down in the fire.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Avery Colvert, a 14-year-old girl from Pasadena, rallied locals to provide items, such as clothes, hair and beauty products, to her peers who had lost everything and were rebuilding their self-confidence.
With the help of her stepfather, Matt Chait, Colvert launched the relief group to help her peers impacted by the Eaton fire regain their sense of normalcy.
“I started this to help girls affected specifically by the Eaton Canyon fire who lost their homes feel like themselves — and feel confident again,” she told the Los Angeles Times, adding, “They’ve lost everything, and I want them to feel a sense of normalcy when nothing else in their life is normal.”
The Duchess arrived with clothing, beauty products and lunch for the volunteers. She also engaged with families and shared conversations that provided support. The group shared a reel to Instagram on Jan. 15, featuring Meghan and a group of volunteers at work in a warehouse full of products.

In the video, Meghan was seen holding two full tote bags as she chatted with a volunteer. The Duchess wore a black Los Angeles baseball cap. The Altadena Teen Girls Fire Recovery group captioned the video:
“And thank you to everyone who showed up on Monday, which was such a special day! We love you! 💖#eatoncanyon #unity #solidarity #fire #altadenagirls"
The video, recorded by the charity’s organizers, showed Meghan’s hands-on work and captured her and Prince Harry’s visit to the Pasadena Convention Center on Jan. 10.
During the visit, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex assisted in distributing food and supplies to those affected by the fires, arriving quietly and without any public attention to contribute personally.
On Jan. 14, the Altadena Teen Girls Fire Recovery Group shared an Instagram post thanking everyone who helped their mission. They gave a special nod to the Archewell Foundation, writing:
“We are official! We can now accept donations directly to our organization and make sure that all of these funds get RIGHT to the community where it’s needed! So many of you have set up your own Venmos and stuff to gather money for us and we are so grateful. A special thanks to The Archewell Foundation for your support!”
The account holder responded to an Instagram user who praised Meghan’s visit, writing:
“Even just meeting her is life-changing! Having her support is unreal.”
On Jan. 12, the Duchess postponed the release of her Netflix series “With Love, Meghan” due to the wildfires. Initially set for Jan. 15, it will now debut on Mar. 4. In a statement on Jan. 12., Meghan explained:
“I’m thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California.”
