‘Unhinged’ Bridesmaid Caused Uproar After The Bride Bought Her Wedding Dress Without Her Present

Weddings are supposed to be the most important day for every woman who dreams of getting married. So, everything on that special day should be all about the bride, no questions asked. But weddings can be full of surprises, too.

In the case of a bride-to-be who took to the "Am I The A**hole thread" on Reddit, she wondered if she was in the wrong for not taking into consideration the feelings of her bridesmaid when she shopped for a wedding dress without her.

OP (original poster) shared in the thread that she arranged a schedule for her bridesmaid and two other friends to help her buy a gown for a wedding. Since all of them had quite a packed schedule, they finally arrived at a compromise and collectively agreed at a certain time a week before. However, one particular bridesmaid whom OP has called Evelyn, texted her days before that she would be absent during the fitting. But because her two other friends were only in town for select days, they decided to continue, as Evelyn did not express any other hesitations.

When they arrived at the shop, OP finally found the perfect dress and decided to purchase it. Evelyn texted the two other friends asking for an update on the wedding dress to which they gladly wrote back that the bride “might have find the one,” which got an ominous response from Evelyn – “Interesting!”

Shortly after the trip to the dress shop, the group also agreed they would be meeting at the bride's house to hang out, including Evelyn. However, to the bride's surprise, things weren’t exactly what she initially thought when Evelyn found out that she had already purchased the said dress.

Elaborating on the eyebrow-raising moment in the Reddit thread, OP recalled the awkward and confusing encounter.

“When she got to my house, the first thing she said was, 'Did you buy a dress?' and I excitedly told her yes. She didn't get excited & just stared at me for like 5-10 secs. I half-jokingly said 'What? Are you mad I bought a dress when you weren't there?' And she said 'Ya I am. Hope you guys have fun tonight' and left my house," she recounted.

Minutes later, Evelyn texted OP some expletives, saying that she was out of her mind, calling her “bridezilla” and telling her to mind others’ feelings.

“She started to 'rank' my friends, and created a hierarchy of my bridesmaids, and told me that it's f**ked up that I bought a wedding dress with Nina and a friend who isn't a bridesmaid. She also told me that the wedding dress was the one thing she really cared about, and she didn’t couldn’t care less about any other thing about my wedding,” she continued

Evelyn then continued to throw a hissy fit and blamed OP for what happened, leaving her conflicted about whether it was wise to still retain her as a bridesmaid.

Redditors took to the thread and gave their honest opinions on OP’s question.

“I'm sorry, when did your wedding become about a bridesmaid? They're there to support you on your big day. NTA,” someone emphasized.

“If I were OP, Id ask this person to step down as a bridesmaid and let the chips fall where they may re the friendship. Her behavior is super immature and unacceptable. I wouldn't trust her to not ruin the experience for the entire wedding party — bride included — in OP's shoes,” another commented.

“NTA she sounds unhinged,” one pointed out.
