Hollywood legend Tom Hanks became emotional while receiving the Cecil B. DeMille award at the 2020 Golden Globes. The actor was looking at his family as he gave all of the honor he has received to them.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced last year it would be bestowing Hanks with the prestigious award. HFPA President Lorenzo Soria went on to express the association's admiration for the actor. “For more than three decades, he’s captivated audiences with rich and playful characters that we’ve grown to love and admire,” he said.

Introducing the award to Hanks was Charlize Theron. She expressed on the red carpet before the event how nerve-racking it was for her to be bestowing the award to the 63-year-old. "He's my hero," she said to Entertainment Tonight. While presenting the award Theron expressed:

"The most undeniable thing that can be said about Tom Hanks is both deceptively simple and yet overwhelmingly true is that he just makes the world a better place,"

During Hanks' acceptance speech he said, "A man is..." before stopping and holding back tears. He covered his mouth as he tried to gain his composure. He apologized as he needed a second before he could continue his sentence without crying.

Hanks had become emotional when he began to look at his family. He then said through a cracked voice, "A man is blessed with a family sitting down front like that, I can't tell you how much your love means to me." He pointed to where his family was sitting in the crowd at the Globes.

Hanks also went on to say how he has been able to continue throughout his successful career. "You're a dope if you don't steal from everybody you have ever worked with, and I have stolen from the likes of the people who only need one name," he said. And the actor has worked with names like Meryl Streep, Denzel Washington, Meg Ryan and so many more.
