Tom Hanks Admits Only A Few Of 80 Films He Made Are Good & Reveals His Top Favorites

Tom Hanks has established an incredible career, starring in more than 80 films over the years. So, to say Hanks had done only a few great films would be an understatement, considering he has numerous well-loved blockbusters and award-winning films under his belt. But it appears Tom Hanks doesn't see the projects he has done the way his fans do.

Some of Tom Hanks' most notable films include 'Sleepless In Seattle,' 'Apollo 13' "Philadelphia," "Forrest Gump" and the "Toy Story" franchise.

Hanks has shown his wide range as an actor over his four decades in the film industry as he has played a variety of characters and showcased just how capable and adaptable he can be. Along with this, Hanks has also proven himself as a producer, screenwriter, and director for a plethora of films and television shows.

Hanks' impressive career has made him a favorite with both fans and critics, as he has won a litany of awards and accolades, and he is easily one of the most beloved actors in the industry today. Many people have even dubbed him "America's dad."

Getting his start during the 1980s, Hanks first struggled with making a name for himself and landing roles that led to success. He slowly worked his way up the ladder in Hollywood, and by the time the 1990s rolled around, Hanks had established himself as a reliable and dedicated actor.

In 1994, he landed the leading role in one of the most iconic films in his repertoire, Forrest Gump.' Hanks was easily the shining star of the dramatic movie and really showcased his acting abilities.

The film was received well by fans and critics at the time and even went on to win several Academy Awards, including the award for Best Picture.

While he has worked on several films and TV shows fans consider great, it seems only a few of them are remarkable for the famed Hollywood actor.

Hanks told PEOPLE in a story published in September 2022 said that out of all the films he had made throughout his 40-year career, he only considered a few of them as "pretty good."

"No one knows how a movie is made — though everyone thinks they do," Hanks said. "I've made a ton of movies (and four of them are pretty good, I think) and I'm still amazed at how films come together. From a flicker of an idea to the flickering image onscreen, the whole process is a miracle," he added, as quoted by PEOPLE.

Hanks made the revelation while talking about his first-ever novel set to be released in May 2023 called 'The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece.' The official synopsis of the book hints the novel is about the film industry and the "colossal, star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action film and the humble comic book that inspired it."

But have you ever wondered what his top films are? In an interview on The Bill Simons Podcast in 2021, Tom Hanks revealed his top three movies. He made his choices based on his personal experience while doing the films.

"Number one is 'A League Of Their Own' because all I did all summer was play baseball, I shagged flies, I ate turkey dogs, I took infield with Robin Knight and a ton of other people," he said.

"I had all my kids with me, I had all my family with me," he added. "It was a great summer and my family still speaks about it," he continued.

"And I would probably say 'Cast Away' because we just had bold adventures when we were making that movie. I mean, we're around the middle of the ocean just you know, trying to grab shots and we were off in Fiji on two different occasions and again, had the whole family with me. There was nothing but adventures every single day," he stated.

"And the last film that was magical for me I would say was a movie called 'Cloud Atlas' that I made with the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer. We shot it on a hope in a dream and nothing but a circle of love in Berlin and Mallorca and Dresden," he said.

"So we were bombing all over Germany and that was the first time I had ever shot extensively in Germany and I was surrounded by history," he said. "But the work itself was that we were part of a big massive ensemble of fantastic people who were just trying to do the hardest, best work on the deep throw," he added.

For some fans, Tom's list might not be enough with his library of films. Well, we certainly don't know for sure if Tom Hanks was just joking about having only four favorites or not. But if there's one thing we're certain about: it's that Hanks had done more than just four films – and fans can attest to that.
