Keith's musical journey started way back in the early 1990s when he inked a deal with Mercury Records. "Should've Been a Cowboy," his debut single, was released in 1993 and became the hottest country song at the time, making him the singer to watch in that era.

He enjoyed huge success and acclaim back then, and he performed commercially well on the charts and was deemed one of the best-selling country artists of all time because of his hit singles and albums.

In June 2022, Keith shocked his fans after announcing that he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer and that he had already had surgery, and begun receiving radiation and chemotherapy.

Sharing an update to The Oklahoman, the singer revealed that he “was feeling pretty good” and he hoped to return back to touring once he could already keep up his strength.

"Basically, everything is in a real positive trend. You never know with cancer, so you have to prepare," he assured his fans. "I've got more wind. And I'm thinking about bringing the band in and setting up, playing two or three days somewhere just to see if I can get through two hours."

The 62-year-old crooner was reported to still have been undergoing chemotherapy in July 2023 as the tumor had shrunk by a third of its original size. To regain back his strength and health, he also revealed to have been receiving immunotherapy treatment, as well as seeking the help of a nutritionist.

Fans have since been worried for the “Red Solo Cup” singer, which is why they were very happy seeing him alive and doing well in a video uploaded on his own TikTok account, where he was seen singing his own song on a karaoke machine inside an Uber ride.

Singing "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American),” during an Uber ride on July 15, 2023, Keith sang happily with the rest of the passengers in the vehicle with the windows down.

“This is what happens when my Uber has a karaoke machine…-T” he captioned the video both on TikTok and Instagram

According to The Boot, Keith specifically wrote the song in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States. The powerful and emotionally-charged song has been a huge hit among his fans, especially coming from someone who was the son of a military veteran,

“I wrote ("Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue") on the back of a Fantasy Football sheet that was laying there; I just turned it and wrote around the edges and, in about 20 minutes, wrote the lyric out and called it 'The Angry American.' When I turned it in, they said, "Well, it really doesn’t say 'angry American' in there. Why don’t you call it ‘Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue?’' So, I did,” he recalled.

As soon as he finished the song, everyone clapped inside the vehicle. Likewise, everyone on social media who saw the video was clapping too.

Lance Carpenter, Keith’s friend, and another country singer, had this to say: “I love this so much! What a memory for the driver!”

“No cancer can hurt that voice!! You sound amazing 👏,” a fan cheered.

"So happy to hear you singing, lucky Uber driver. You look awesome and your voice is amazing,” someone shared.

“Love your songs,Toby 🥰 Especially the ones that you talk about in your songs of the armed forces fighting for our freedom. 🥰” another commented on TikTok
