'Tip The Bill Challenge' Encourages Diners To Tip 100% Gratuity To Spread Awareness
Aug 27, 2018 by apost team
Tipping culture in America is pretty controversial. A 20% tip is the new standard. The tip is already added to the bill in most other countries. Many Americans feel like they shouldn't have to pay extra for existing services.
Wait staff in restaurants live on tips, which is why it's so important. They're paid minimum wage, with the idea that a tip is just going to cover the rest. It's still not nearly enough. Most servers are paid only $2-4 per hour. One server claimed that this amount is actually taxed based on how much they make in tips.
Recently, her paycheck was only 30 cents!

"Tipping The Bill" Changes This Culture
This challenge began around March 2018. It's simple on the surface: just tip 100%. Leaving such a hefty tip carries extra meaning though. You're demonstrating that you truly appreciate the service. Your server is able to bring in some extra income, all because of you!
Show You Care
People who have tried the challenge are posting picture evidence all over the web. They depict their receipts with a closeup of the tip itself. The numbers are incredible! A lot of the receipts also say things like "thank you" or "tip the bill" next to the person's signature.
Servers Are So Happy
Wait staff are responding to the challenge on their own social media. Many are giving outpourings of gratitude. One waitress commented via Twitter that she "cried" when one table tipped the bill for her. She continued, "Karma is real."
More Should Be Done
Twitter user @Eugenius48 acknowledged how significant this challenge is. It has a positive impact on our society. However, they also believe that "tipping the bill" doesn't go quite far enough. This user suggested that servers should "organize" and form unions instead. Demanding that jobs pay their workers more is a better solution.
What about you? Are you brave enough to "tip the bill"?
