Tiny Skater Glides Onto Ice And Waves To Mom Before Stealing The Show With Adorable Routine

What's so remarkable about children is how quickly they can pick up new skills. From learning languages to swimming, it's incredible to see small children try something new for the first time and quickly master it, yet it's something that many of us lack as adults. Although not every child has the opportunity to ice skate, the sport is not unlike children learning to swim for the first time in that they simply need to learn a series of movements, and soon enough they'll be able to confidently do whatever it is they're trying to learn.

That must have been the case for one 3-year-old named Brynn Cartagena. Back in 2014, her mom, Valerie Cartagena, uploaded a video to YouTube of Brynn performing in an ice skating competition at the age of 3. Not only is her routine absolutely adorable, considering she's so little, but her moves are also suited for someone of that age and skill level, making the routine a far departure from the Olympic-level routines we normally see on television. The fact that her routine is set to "The Muffin Man" nursery rhyme only adds to the overall cuteness.

But what makes Brynn's routine even more successful is that the competition took place only eight weeks after she'd learned to ice skate! And Brynn even took home first place. The video has since spread over the internet, gaining over 1.7 million views. It shows that if only adults were as fearless as Brynn and gave something new a go, we'd all surely be a lot more confident and have a lot more skills.

For those people who've been lucky enough to grow up skating on ice, the act is second nature in the same way that walking or running is to most people. The earlier someone begins to ice skate, the better they'll be when they're older — and it's also most likely that they won't even grow up to have a memory of learning it, as it will seem they've just always done it. That would surely be the case for one adorable little girl named Brynn if it wasn't for a video that shows her early attempts at ice skating. Not only will the video be a reminder to her of when she was getting acquainted with the ice, but it's also now famous, after quickly spreading across the internet and gaining over 1.7 million views!

The video dates back to 2014, when Brynn was just 3 years old and fresh to the sport — eight weeks fresh to be exact. But being a novice in the sport didn't hold her back, as her mother, Valerie, decided to enter her into a skating competition. That year Brynn competed in the Magnolia Open against six other contestants in her age group. Who knew that competitive skating could start at such a young age, but as long as one is learning and improving in a chosen craft, there is no such thing as being too young to compete. From the beginning of the video, it's too sweet for words, as Brynn takes to the ice in a fitting pink ensemble that looks like a child's replica of a professional figure skating outfit.

As she skates onto the ice and gets into position to begin her fun routine, Brynn happily waves at someone in the crowd, then she waits for the music to begin. Somewhat unexpectedly, the music that begins isn't the usual theatrical or popular figure skating music that we've come to expect from professional competitions. Instead, it's a children's song, specifically "The Muffin Man!"

As the music plays along joyfully, Brynn gets into her routine. Once again, there are no jumps or spins. After all, she's only 3 and has been skating for eight weeks! Instead, the moves are focused on starting, stopping, wiggling backward and showing agility by raising and lowering her arms and body. Overall, it's a very strong routine considering her age and skill level — and one that is made all the sweeter with the choice of soundtrack.

Brynn shows confidence throughout her routine and her focus never seems to waver. As she skates off the ice towards her mom at the end, it is clear that Brynn is a winner. So it's no surprise then to learn that she placed first in her age group and won! Valerie wrote in the video's description that Brynn "loved every minute and (is) looking forward to her next (competition)!" If she can achieve that at only 3 years old, Brynn looks set to go on to much bigger and better things as she gets older. In fact, just nine months after competing in the Magnolia Open, she went on to compete at Winterfest Skate.

But Brynn's story doesn't end there. As that was a number of years ago, she's continued skating since then and has also continued to compete. Just a few years later in 2017, Brynn entered the Atlanta Figure Skating Club's Magnolia Open once again, and at the age of 6, took home first place once more! Valerie has also continued to upload some videos of Brynn's competitions to her YouTube channel.

Then, in 2020, Brynn entered the Magnolia Free Skate competition. Her routine was like night and day compared to her performance in 2014. Comprising mostly backward skating and a countless number of spins and jumps, Brynn's skill progression is obvious. Unfortunately, it's unclear how she scored with this more recent routine, but nevertheless, she truly looks like she's on her way to the big leagues. What's more, her love of pink outfits hasn't changed one bit!

However, Brynn's dad tragically passed away last year as well. Instead of asking for charity donations or flowers, Valerie had asked friends and family to donate to a fund that would allow Brynn and her brother to continue chasing their dreams.

Considering Brynn's progress from a novice ice skater competing at 3 years old to a very talented 9-year-old figure skater, we're sure there are big things in her future. If she continues to improve at the rate that she has in the last seven years, then we're sure she will have no problem competing professionally when she's grown up. And to think it all started with an adorable video that made its way all over the internet!

What did you think of Brynn's adorable ice skating routine at the age of 3? If this brightened your day, be sure to pass it on to those you know to lift their moods too!
