Tina Turner Looks Majorly Transformed At Nearly 81

Tina Turner has brought classic hits to our ears since the 60s. Starting out with colleague-turned-husband Ike Turner, and later going solo, Tina produced a wealth of music before retiring after her 50th Anniversary Tour. We look back at what made the singer who she is and how she is spending life after the stage.

Tina, real name Anna Mae Bullock, was born on 26 November 1939 in Brownsville, Tennessee. Her first experience of singing was as part of the church choir at Nutbush's Spring Hill Baptist Church.
Whilst at a club in St. Louis while she was in her teens, she met Ike, who played at the club with his band Kings of Rythm, according to Biography.com.

Tina married Ike in 1962, but the couple had a very turbulent relationship, with Tina being the victim of Ike's violence and his struggle with addiction, as Biography.com details. The couple divorced in 1978, and Tina decided to embark on a solo career.
She released Private Dancer in 1984, at the age of 45, which was a huge international success. It also included her biggest hit in America, What’s Love Got To Do With It. She continued to produce music, tour worldwide, and perform live until 2009.
She hung up her microphone at the age of 70 and retired to her lake house Château near Zürich, Switzerland, where she lives with her 64-year-old husband, Erwin Bach. But that didn't really mean the end of Tina's work.
In 2016 she began working on a musical based on her life called The Tina Turner Musical, which was a hit in the UK and on Broadway. The show opened in London in April 2018 and is still going strong. Tina received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.
According to WDET-FM, Tina, who will celebrate her 81st birthday this coming November, has undergone a kidney transplant, suffered from vertigo, had a stroke, and suffered from colon cancer. Despite it all, she remains positive and keeps a smile on her face.
