Can you imagine watching your baby gasping for air not knowing what to do? Every second that goes by is another step towards death. A simple piece of food is now lodged in their small throat.
If only you knew some simple first aid, maybe you could help your baby. You could potentially save their life.
Knowing the dangers of a baby starting to eat would definitely be a great first step. Food is not always the problem though. Babies learn by putting things in their mouth. This is because they are curious and ready to absorb all the knowledge they can. It may sound odd to us but we already have use of our other senses to explore and learn. Because infants do not have teeth, they aren't able to chew and swallow properly. This skill, along with their teeth, will develop as they grow.

If you hear your baby start to cough unexpectedly, you need to assess the situation immediately. Hopefully everything is fine but coughing could be a sign of choking, whether it be on food or a small object. Do not panic. You can't think clearly if you are panicked. Clear your mind and really think things through before you start any kind of treatment.
Learning first aid will give you the knowledge and confidence you'll need when you have an infant or even a toddler running around. There is so much they can get in to, even when you turn your back for two seconds. Hopefully you won't have to use your acquired knowledge but at least you will know what to do if the situation ever arises. Take a few seconds and watch this short video to learn what you can do if your child begins to choke.
Was this video helpful? Is there anyone in your family you would like to see it? Maybe you would even like for your babysitter to watch this. What are some other things you would like to learn about for safety in infants and children?
