This Dog Risked Her Life In Order To Give Birth And Goes Into Kidney Failure When One Of Her Pups Saves Her Life

Star, a homeless canine mom, has an incredible story to tell, one of kindness, motherly love and strength in the face of adversity.

Despite being perpetually overheated, teetering dangerously on the brink of starvation and suffering from unimaginable thirst, Star nurtured her nine surviving pups to the best of her ability. This devotion came at great cost to herself.

Just when all hope seemed lost, Star and her canine family were found by rescuers from Missouri's Murphy Animal Hospital. At that point, she was suffering from seizures and had entered the advanced stages of kidney failure.

Care and dedication from the hospital's veterinary team helped Star regain her strength and good health. She also found a home with the hospital's owner, Shannon Flegle, DVM. Star's puppies were adopted out to loving homes of their own.

Though Star's health improved after being rescued, those days of living on the streets with no food or water and a sizable litter of puppies to care for ultimately came back to haunt her. Her appetite waned and nausea took over.

Shannon put her love for Star as well as her veterinary expertise to work, but nothing seemed to make a difference. Star would need a kidney transplant from a dog with closely matching genetic makeup, like a family member for instance.
