If you’ve got kidney stones, you know how frustrating and painful they can be. Passing them can be difficult, but perhaps next time you should ride this rollercoaster and watch your kidney stone problems disappear. A professor from Michigan State University is now making claims that a certain rollercoaster, Big Thunder Mountain, featured at Florida’s Disney World, can help people pass their kidney stones.
David Wartinger works in the Department of Osteopathic Surgical Specialties at Michigan State University. Some of his patients had been making claims that after riding Big Thunder Mountain, their kidney stones passed. One patient even confessed that he passed three stones after riding the coaster a few times.
This made Wartinger curious, so he launched a pilot research study and an extended study that came back with shocking results.

The professor started his studies with a synthetic 3D model of a kidney. He filled the kidney replicas with makeshift kidney stones, all smaller than 4 millimeters. He then headed to Disney World himself, bringing the model in his backpack.
The professor rode the coaster 20 times to test the results of passing kidney stones while riding.
Amazingly enough, Wartinger concluded that riding the coaster in the very last cart has a 64% rate of passing a kidney stone with his replica. However, if you’re trying to pass yours with this method, avoid the first few carts, as they only have a 16% success rate when compared to the higher back carts.
Once he had results, he extended his study with different types of kidney models in order to ensure accuracy. In the expanded study, the rate of passing a kidney stone rose to 70%, and an amazing 100% if the stones were lodged in the kidney’s upper chambers.

Big Thunder Mountain has the ideal shape and speed for passing kidney stones.
The coaster is quick, with twists and turns, but does not take passengers upside down.
People, unfortunately, develop kidney stones when their urine contains an increase of calcium, oxalate, and uric acid. These are crystal-forming substances and when they appear in abundance, they cannot be diluted by urine.
You’ve probably heard that passing these stones is extremely painful, and it is. People have often used natural remedies to try to pass them, but maybe roller coasters are the new method!
