During one hot day in June, some kids were desperate to fill up an inflatable pool in their front lawn to get some relief from the sweltering heat. Unfortunately, the kids didn't have access to a hose. While some adults might just give up, these kids got creative and started an assembly line running from their kitchen to the pool outside. Using any pots and pans they could find, they filled their containers with water from the sink and ran to the yard to fill up their pool as best as they could.

Their tireless efforts weren't paying off until some local firefighters showed up on the scene.

The firefighters aboard Charlotte Fire Station’s Engine 18 were leaving the scene of a medical call they attended to when they passed the house where these kids were trying so hard to fill up their inflatable pool. Without a second thought, these firefighters knew they had to stop and help this situation. As it turns out, these kids were trying to celebrate a boy's birthday by filling up the pool for him.

The parents and children were delighted to see how quickly the firefighters were able to fill their pool with their powerful hose. They were even kind enough to spray down all the kids who built up a sweat running to and from the kitchen earlier.

Later that day, Charlotte Fire Station took to sharing their photos online accompanied with a heart-warming caption:

"Firehouse 18 is a neighborhood firehouse full of men and woman who truly care about the families they swore to protect. Today, after leaving a medical call, Engine 18 stumbled across a family desperately trying to fill up a kiddy pool by filling pots from the sink for a little boys birthday on this sweltering day. What was just a simple task for us turned into laughter, smiles, and a life long memory for the neighborhood kids as well as the men on Engine 18. Proud to serve the WESTSIDE!"

Although this stop only took a few minutes out of their day, this is an experience that these kids will remember fondly for the rest of their lives. We should all take a note from these amazing firefighters by taking some time out of our day to help others in need!
