With all of the crazy nail trends today, it isn’t surprising to see a lady with extremely long nails. There are literally thousands of designs that can be done on nails, from subtle to outrageous. We have seen nails with hair, nails that have bubbles on them, nails that look like Christmas trees, and so on. So it isn’t really a shock to see a lady with long nails that curve in towards her hands dangling lots of bling and ornaments.

However, you probably won’t see the wife of a church pastor with these types of nails too often. Most people think that the wife of a pastor should wear big hats and keep her nails short and simple. However, this is definitely not the case at a local church known as First Zion Hill Baptist Church.

Tammy Dunmore is the wife of the pastor of First Zion Hill. She is a wife that wants more than just the plain and simple. She rocks extremely long nails in and out of church, and she does it with an intense amount of pride. She believes that tradition should not have to define who she is. Because of that, she feels as though there is no reason for her to have to cut her nails just because she goes to church.

Every week without fail, Tammy heads off to visit Maria Ortiz, the nail technician who creates stunning nail designs that catch the eyes of anyone who passes. The actual appointment takes about four to five hours every time. Maria has been doing nails since the young age of 23. She said that she knew from a young age that she was different. She came out as transgender back in the 80s, at a time that transgender people were not as well accepted. This is one of the reasons she wanted to create a place where everyone would feel welcome.

The “Long Nail Goddesses” love to come together at the nail salon and in the church. Tammy does admit that they get a lot of comments, some good, some nasty, when they go out in public with their extremely long nails. However, she knows that they will always support one another, no matter what.
