Who doesn’t love having a best friend? Having someone to spend time with, turn to when you need some help or just someone that you can completely be yourself around can be extremely helpful for people. Surprisingly enough, it’s not uncommon for young children to develop these amazing bonds by forming friendships with their family pet. Growing up with pets can be beneficial for both humans and animals, as they are able to learn from one another.

Research has shown that children experience great benefits when they grow up surrounded by pets, and plenty of personal anecdotes from people around the world support these findings. Whether it’s by enjoying some time together playing, sleeping or just being in each other’s space, pets and children have showcased their adorable friendships time and time again in plenty of videos and articles circulating the internet.

Although there is a clear difference between the languages people and pets speak, it’s obvious that they are still able to communicate through other methods and form beautiful bonds. Children rely on their pets to be there for them no matter what as they are a source of unconditional love.

Along with this, kids can learn a lot more from their furry friends. By building important habits and discovering life skills, children have seen immense benefits from having strong relationship with their pets. From empathy to verbal skills to responsibility, there is no shortage of offerings pets bring when it comes to helping their owners and the children that care for them learn valuable lessons.

An article from the HuffPost from June 2015 explained more about how children and pets benefit from one another, specifically how children profit even more when they grow up with these animals from an early age. Some of those benefits include receiving unconditional love, learning how to take on responsibilities and learning new verbal skills.

One of the most important factors that comes with owning a pet is the sheer amount of unconditional love that they bring. When children grow up with pets, they are able to have someone to go to for comfort or support. They can “listen to a child’s troubles without judgment or consequences,” according to the HuffPost. Along with this, pets also offer a safe outlet for children to turn to when they need someone to vent to about their potential fears and frustrations. Children can freely express their honest emotions since their pets will never judge them.

Pets can help young kids learn about being responsible. A lot goes into taking care of a pet, such as feeding them, helping them get exercise and making sure they are clean and healthy. According to the HuffPost, “children can gain confidence by having the responsibility of caring for a pet.” Young children can start off with simple tasks such as feeding their pets, and they can take on more challenging tasks as they get older.

Socializing with animals can help children increase their verbal communication skills, according to the HuffPost. Even though the animals cannot directly respond through words, they can still sit and listen to their owners speak and help give children the confidence to socialize. The HuffPost also reported that pets also provide emotional support and cognitive skills support to children.

See The Sweet Friendships Between Pets And Kids

An adorable video uploaded by The Dodo on Facebook in May 2017 showed just how sweet a pet’s relationships with their owner can be. The video’s caption read as follows: “When kids have a dog, they don’t just grow up with a pet — they grow up with a best friend.” The video depicts various babies, toddlers and other young children engaging with their furry friends.  From play time to nap time to everything in between, the kids and their pets seem to always be enjoying their time together.

They go on adventures together as some clips showed the children and their pets going on fun walks and playing outside. Even though there is a clear language barrier, it was clear that these friendships were real and beneficial to both parties. One scene showed a baby trying to learn how to crawl as he watched his tiny dog perform the action right in front of him.

The sweet animals showcased in the video were always there when it was time to cuddle or when their small owner needed a little extra love and support. Most importantly, these kids have someone to laugh with and someone who will love them no matter what.

Whether it’s for a quick nap or for a fun day outside, pets are sure to be by their owner’s side. Children who grow up with these furry friends can profit greatly as they can work on their communication skills, learn how to take on responsibility and find a real friend who will forever love them unconditionally.
