The Reason Why People Use A St. Joseph Statue To Sell Their House

We had been finding odd things in the backyard for months after moving into our new home. The latest was a statue of St. Joseph. Why was it buried, though? Well, in Catholic tradition, this particular saint is the patron saint of fathers and workers, as well as the patron saint of real estate.

According to Snopes, no one seems to know exactly when burying a statue became popular among realtors. However, they started selling like crazy in the United States around 1990. While we aren’t exactly sure if St. Joseph did have an influence on us, we did put in our offer within just a couple of weeks of the house going on the market. Maybe the saint did influence us!

The most common way to bury your St. Joseph statue is in your front yard, facing the house, and upside down. If you do not have a yard, bury him in a pot and place it near your door. If you would like, wrap the statue in a protective cloth or place him in a bag. This keeps him protected from the weather. You do not have to be religious to try this unusual method. Even atheists have told us that this method worked for them!

You must then pray to St. Joseph for help. How you pray doesn’t matter, as long as the prayer is meant for St. Joseph himself. If you don’t know the prayer, find it here. Additionally, you can buy a home sales kit that usually includes the prayer card with the actual statue.

The story says that once you complete the first two steps, wait for an offer on your home. Don’t do anything until you have actually closed the sale on your house. You should then dig St. Joseph up and take him with you when you move to your new home. This is to thank him for selling your old house.
