The most wonderful time of the year never ceases to amaze communities worldwide with love, light and Christmas cheer. In the heart of McKinney, Texas, one family’s radiant holiday tradition has been illuminating the community for over a decade. The home of Dr. Nasheel Joules and her husband, Mark Cornetti, transforms each year into a dazzling Christmas wonderland, attracting visitors from near and far. Crowds come in their numbers to witness the spectacular, magical display of Christmas lights, and the owners of the home never fail to impress.
At first glance, one may think that the bold and bright Christmas display surrounding the whole house is merely the owner’s fascination with Christmas sprinkled with a dash of wanting to show off, but this story goes deeper than that. At the heart of it all is a touching and inspiring story of overcoming difficulties. Beyond the spectacle of over a million twinkling lights and more than 74 inflatables, their display, aptly named “The Gift of Light,” carries a profound message of hope and resilience.
Joules always enjoyed driving around their community and seeing everyone’s Christmas displays. However, she was diagnosed with stage 3 heart failure and CAPS, a rare autoinflammatory disease. Sadly, the cold winter weather that makes Christmas magical made it dangerous for her to be out admiring Christmas lights as the condition is triggered by cold temperatures.

In response, they had to make changes to their annual Christmas routine. Therefore, the couple decided to bring the festive spirit directly to their doorstep by creating their own excellent displays, drawing everyone else to their home. In an interview with Fox News, Joules spoke about how the tradition started and what keeps it going.
“We just buy a few more things each year," she shared. "We love looking at Christmas lights.”
Essentially, what started as a way for them to make up for Joules’ inability to see all the Christmas displays she wanted to because of her deteriorating health turned into a Christmas tradition many look forward to and flock to see. Now, the couple uses the tradition to raise awareness about heart disease and its effects on people's lives. Most importantly, it became about bringing the community together.
“When we saw what it does for people that come and see it—the smiles, the laughter—it really became more about doing it for them and not doing it for us so much,” Joules said.
The couple also said this was their way of bringing joy at Christmas time through the gift of light, and they added a touch of heartwarming kindness by placing a prayer request box outside and sharing a link to the American Heart Association for visitors to donate.
One couple, Jarvis and Blaire Jones, traveled to see the fantastic display and were impressed by it.
“It’s super special just to see, their joy and all the smiles that all of this creates,” Blaire said.
This is an excellent reminder of the meaning of Christmas.
