The Queen of England Continues To Wear Beloved Colorful Outfits While Self-Isolating At Windsor Castle

For many of us, government-mandated lockdowns, self-isolation and working from home means letting ourselves go and wearing sweatpants 24/7. But not for the 93-year-old Queen of England. Known for her colorful outfits and timeless sense of style, the Queen continued to look elegant and put together in a recent Instagram post — even while in self-isolation.

In a two-image collage, The Royal Family Instagram post showed Queen Elizabeth telephoning with Prime Minister Boris Johnson, 55, for their weekly talk, though their conversation was not face-to-face to maintain social distancing practices. But whereas Johnson had his characteristically messy hair on full display, the Queen was dressed in a chic outfit comprised of different shades of purple. She also wore her classic pearl earrings along with a tasteful pink shade of lipstick. Of course, her hair was immaculately done as well, with her signature silver curls. The caption reads: “The Queen held her weekly Audience with the Prime Minister today by telephone. Her Majesty - pictured this evening at Windsor Castle - has held a weekly Audience with her Prime Minister throughout her reign.”

According to People, the Queen can wear up to as many as seven different dresses a day while entertaining guests. In Angela Kelly’s 2019 book, The Other Side of the Coin: The Queen, The Dresser and the Wardrobe, the Queen’s longtime dresser opens up about the Queen’s incredibly high — or might we say royally high —  fashion standards.

“I lay out sketches of evening dresses for the Queen to look through and choose what she would like to wear that evening and, occasionally, she may have to pick out a dress for a cocktail party,” writes Kelly, according to People.

Beyond meticulously planning her outfits and changing in a day more times than some of us change in a week, Kelly explains that the Queen makes sure that her maids and other staff members do not clash with her outfit.Talk about coordination.

“Once Her Majesty has chosen her dress for dinner, a handwritten notice is pinned up in the Dressers’ Corridor detailing what she will be wearing, so that the Queen’s ladies’ maids can select an appropriate dress for the lady they are looking after,” writes Kelly.

And if you’re ever lucky enough to meet with Queen Elizabeth in person, Kelly added that it’s important to keep your outfit in mind. Whereas other royal family members are exempt from the same expectations, the Queen prefers that her guests are not dressed in the same color as she is. To be fair, however, Kelly also adds that in the off chance that this does happen, it’s not a huge deal.

But with that insider knowledge of the Queen’s stringent fashion requirements and her admiration for elegant clothing, her put-together appearance in Thursday’s Instagram post makes a bit more sense. While some of us might laze around in our pajamas while we wait out the virus, just know that the Queen looks sharp as ever.
