Babies are so cute, and it is no different when you are a baby sun bear. Watch as the baby sun bear who is still a little wobbly on his feet emerges from his birthing den for the first time after he was born at the Chester Zoo on June 13, 2018. It is easy to see in this delightful video that the 12-week-old cub has grown rapidly since zookeepers announced that he weighed just 14 ounces when he was born. There's no doubt that Millie the mother will soon have trouble keeping this feisty fellow in check.

How did the parents end up at the Chester Zoo?

Millie along with the dad Toni came to live among the 21,000 animals at the Chester Zoo in Chestershire, England, in 2013 after being raised by conservationists in their native Cambodia.

The conservationists got control of the cubs after illegal poachers captured their mom and dad. The poachers killed Toni and Millie's parents leaving them to fend for themselves.

Is it common for sun bears to be born in the United Kingdom?

It really is a great story of how everyone worked together to get the bears to the Chester Zoo where over 500 different species of animals can regularly be seen.

This cub is the first sun bear cub born in the United Kingdom.

What will the cub look when it is fully grown?

Sun bears are named for the yellow spot on their chest that looks like a rising sun to many. They are the smallest of the six families of bears.

Once this cub is done growing, it is very likely that he will weigh almost 175 pounds and be about 59 inches long. Sun bears are considered vulnerable because of the deforestation of their native habitat in Southeast Asia.

Despite the fact that these bears were once very common in Singapore, they are considered extinct in this island-nation.

Are these also called honey bears?

Some people call these bears honey bears because they love to dine on it. In fact, it is not unusual to see a sun bear use his sharp claws to tear down a tree to get to honey if they believe it is located there.
