Dogs have proven time and time again just why they are referred to as man’s best friend. From their unwavering loyalty to their unconditional love, dogs have nothing but kindness and positivity to offer to the people who choose to care for them. Adopting or rescuing a dog doesn’t just give you a pet; it gives you a new family member. One dog in the state of Arizona definitely deserves a title upgrade after she courageously saved her family from a potential house fire.

The scary incident occurred in Glendale, Arizona, in June 2021. Fast asleep, the family was unaware of the smoke and flames seeping through their house until their trusty dog Grace woke them up with her insistent barking. The 7-month-old lab mix was relentless with her efforts to get her family’s attention. Once she did, they discovered the dangerous situation: there was a fire in their bathroom. The vent had caught on fire and was surrounded by smoke and flames.

Although the fire was not too hazardous just yet, there was no telling just how bad their situation could have been had Grace not been there or been able to wake the family up. Grace’s act of heroism has since been shared with plenty of people all over the world and she has received endless praise for her incredible bravery. Thanks to their smart and strong-willed dog, this Arizona family was able to get everyone out of the house safely and prevent the fire from spreading to more areas in their home.

Showing their love and undying affection for their dog, the Reinert family had a sticker on the front window of their house that said: “In Case of Fire — Save My Pet.” Ironically, it was actually the family pet who saved this family in Glendale, Arizona. On June 17, 2021, AZ Family reported that Maura Reinert and her family members were fast asleep before being woken up around 3 a.m. by their barking dog, Grace.

“She was just barking like crazy at the bathroom door, and just would not stop,” Reinert said. She explained how she figured that her husband would be able to help calm the dog down and stop barking so everyone could go back to sleep, “but that was not the case,” as Reinert explained.

During an interview with AZ Family, Reinert pointed out the vent that had caught on fire. “We could just see orange flames,” she said. Immediately, her motherly instincts took over and she rushed her children out of the house before calling 911. Inside the home, the father did what he could to smother the flames with a wet towel. The Glendale Fire Department arrived shortly after and made sure the fire was extinguished for good.

“Totally a blessing,” Reinert said about her brave dog. “Thank God for her, because we just don’t know, it could have spread, we could have all gotten smoke inhalation. Just really grateful.” Even 7-year-old Brynn Reinert chimed in and praised Grace for helping to save them. “She’s really smart, she’s like really brave and stuff and saved the whole family,” she said.
