In this most joyous time of year, it is important to remember family, and that not everyone has a family. Hundreds of thousands of young people in the United States are in the foster care system, where they have no permanent family and no permanent home. One such child is 12-year-old Jonah, who recently sat down with WFAA 8 in Dallas, Texas for their Wednesday Child segment. WFAA’s Wednesday Child segment is intended to help children in the foster care system find forever families and greater stability in their lives.

In his interview with WFAA 8 Texas, looking extremely dapper in a grey vest and blue tie, Jonah’s greatest attribute is his smile. Jonah says that despite all the difficulties he’s faced in life, he has unshakeable faith. Whenever something is troubling Jonah, he always turns to the Almighty, who finds a way to put a smile on his youthful face.

Speaking about the abuse he endured before entering the state’s Child Protective Services, Jonah says that God brought him through it and made him the person he is today. From the moment he wakes up in the morning, Jonah credits God with getting him through the day.

Jonah’s unwavering faith has led him to not only have a positive outlook on life but also to do extremely well in school. The young man is on the honor roll and is a straight A student. Jonah even won an award in his class for his great ability to multitask. In going about his school day, Jonah tells the news station he adopts the Golden Rule: to treat others the way you would want to be treated.

Wise beyond his years, Jonah says that he wants to help lift people up in his day-to-day life. In talking about his search for a forever family after being in CPS for four years, Jonah says that he knows that he will be a good fit with a family because each person has a group of people that they are meant to be with.

According to data compiled by Texas Child Protective Services and reported on by KVIA 7 News, about 20,000 children exited foster care for permanent homes in 2019. About 6,000 of those kids were adopted and half were adopted by relatives.
