Tess Holliday, A Social Media Model, Claps Back At Body-Shamer After Receiving Unsolicited Comments
Feb 04, 2022 by apost team
Tess Holliday is a famous plus-sized model, social media blogger and makeup artist. She is a body positivity activist and embraces the notion that people should be able to look however they want to look without having to suffer from societal pressures. Holliday is known for being very outspoken about her beliefs, and has already started 2022 off by standing up for herself.
The model went to Instagram on Jan. 21, 2022, to talk about an experience she had at a doctor’s office, dealing with a body-shamer. She explained how another person in the waiting room made comments about her appearance, specifically the size of her body. Holliday was not having this, and shut down the body-shamer.
This wasn’t the first time Holliday was subjected to fat-shaming or body-shaming. Back in January 2020, the model wore a strawberryy dress designed by Lirika Matoshi on the Grammy Awards’ red carpet. The outfit landed her on the worst-dressed list.
However, a few months later, the dress’ popularity exploded across social media, but was mostly featured on slimmer women. Frustrated, Holliday took to Instagram and said, “I like how this dress had me on the worst dressed lists when I wore it in January to the Grammys, but now bc a bunch of skinny ppl wore it on TikTok everyone cares.” She added, “To sum it up: our society hates fat people, especially when we are winning.”
Once again, Holliday was faced with people judging her by the way her body looks when she went to the doctor’s in January 2022. She has since spoken out about the incident and has continued to stand by her actions.

In January 2022, Holliday posted a video on Instagram detailing a not so pleasant experience at the doctor’s office. In the caption, she wrote, “I don’t often give myself enough credit, and my energy this year is very much to cut that s*** out. Going to the doctor and dealing with someone body shaming me was apparently my tipping point.”
In the video, Holliday talked about how a woman at her doctor’s office waiting room told her that she had a very beautiful face and really pretty hair, but then commented on Holliday’s body. She said, “She then proceeded to tell me, ‘Why don’t you just lose a little bit of weight?’”
The model said she was no stranger to situations like this, and typically would just let it go. This time, though, she decided to stand up for herself and quickly shut the body-shamer down. Holliday continued, “I looked at her and I said, ‘Ma’am, I am one of the most famous plus-size models in the world. I think I’m doing OK.’”
Holliday recalled that the woman in the waiting room was a bit taken aback before making a comment about knowing how to stop eating when you’re not hungry anymore. The model simply replied, “Bodies are weird.” Their conversation ended after that as Holliday was called into the doctor’s office by a nurse.
Concluding her story, Holliday admitted that she was proud of herself, and said, “I’m proud of myself for standing up for myself even though she will never get it and there was no reason for me to explain myself in that situation.”
