Terminal Ill Star Wars Fan In Hospice Gets To Watch Final Movie Of Trilogy Nearly A Month Early
Dec 04, 2019 by apost team
Too often, we think of Hollywood as a place that is only focused on chasing the almighty dollar, and franchises like “Star Wars” are no exception to the rule. However, a recent story proves that, sometimes, those in the movie industry care enough about their fellow viewers to go the extra mile and help dreams come true.
When a dying patient at Rowans Hospice in England realized that he would be unable to ever see the final installment in the “Start Wars” saga, he was crushed. Doctors had informed him that he would be unlikely to live long enough to watch the new installment on the Dec. 20th date, leaving both him and his young son devastated.

Using social media, Rowans Hospice issued a plea on Twitter saying, "Can you help? We have a patient who’s a HUGE #StarWars fan. Sadly, time is not on his side for the 20th Dec. His wish is to see the final Star Wars film #RiseOfSkywalker with his young son. If you know ANYBODY who might be able to make it happen, please share with them."
It wasn’t long before Mark Hamill who plays Luke Skywalker in the film franchise came across the Tweet and issued some help, suggesting that they get in touch with Disney. Along with his suggestion, he wished them luck.
Disney’s Chairman and CEO Bob Iger decided to grant the patient an early Christmas present and made it possible for both him and his son to get to watch the next installment of the hit shows well ahead of the public. Iger took to Twitter then to share that he was grateful to have the opportunity to reach out to this dying man and his family.
While Hospice worker Lisa Davies had been the one to initially take the request to social media, she had to admit that she was stunned when Disney actually stepped up to make this patient’s final request come true as she shared in a press release.
“I am utterly speechless. We cannot thank Disney enough for confirming that they will be able to share the film to fulfill our patients wish. We totally appreciate that they have had to move mountains to make this happen!”
We’re so glad to see a company that is interested in not only providing entertaining movies but also helping those in need. What do you think of Disney's exception to this patient? Tell us your thoughts below.
