Ten Pieces Of Jewelry Meghan Markle & Kate Middleton Have Inherited From Princess Diana

Jun 08, 2021 by apost team

Princess Diana was universally loved by not only the British public but by people the world over. She used her influence to enact good, spending much of her time campaigning for humanitarian causes that improved the lives of others. She sat with people who were ill, helping to break the stigma of the then-new diseases HIV and AIDS. These are the reasons she became known as the "People's Princess" — she was a shining beacon of light in the royal family.

It's been nearly 24 years since she tragically passed away, but whenever we see photos of her it's still incredibly moving. This is a testament to how much the public adored her, and she's still often talked about and even featured in the media, whether for her charitable deeds or impeccable fashion sense.

Her taste in jewelry over the years has also been incredible, and after her death, many of the pieces have been passed down. "I would like you to allocate all my jewellery to the share to be held by my sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it," Diana wrote in her will. "I leave the exact division of the jewellery to your discretion."

We explore the jewels that Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have inherited from Diana:

Sapphire Engagement Ring

Diana's sapphire ring is certainly one of her most iconic pieces of jewelry. Interestingly, it actually stirred quite the controversy when Prince Charles' engagement to Diana was first announced. When the couple made their engagement public on February 24, 1981, they also revealed the ring for the first time, which featured a 12-carat oval Ceylon sapphire stone, surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds sitting on 18-karat white gold.

Her choice, however, did not sit very well with the Royal family as it wasn’t the norm for a Royal to wear jewelry that was not custom-made and available for public purchase. In any case, she loved the ring so much she continued to wear it even after her divorce from Prince Charles.

When William proposed to his wife Kate Middleton, he did so with his late mother Princess Diana's engagement ring. What many may not know, however, is that it was his younger brother Prince Harry who initially inherited it. In 2010, when William revealed he was planning to propose to his then-girlfriend Kate, his younger brother offered him the ring as a tribute to their mother.

Marie Claire reported that Diana apparently commissioned this aquamarine ring from the jeweler Asprey after her divorce. The ring IS a 13-carat aquamarine and diamond and finished in 14kt white gold, and one of the most memorable pieces of her jewelry.

Harry gifted the emerald-cut ring to his bride as a wedding gift and she has worn it twice since then, including for her wedding reception. As a wedding gift, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia reportedly gave Diana an entire suite of sapphire jewellery that included her iconic sapphire choker.

Diamonds are a girl's best friend, as the saying goes. Diamonds are also one of the most gorgeous jewels yet and are the epitome of regality. Diana had a few signature pieces that have diamonds studded into them.

Pearls are one of the most regal jewels, so it is no doubt that Diana had a beautiful collection of pears that she used very often. The three-stranded pearl bracelet is a perfect combination of elegance and simplicity.

Bustle reported that the first time that Princess Diana was spotted wearing the bracelet was in 1990 when she visited the Lord Gage Centre for Old People in East London. After this, she was also seen wearing the bracelet many times afterward. The bangle, or open cuff bracelet, is made of gold and it has blue stones and diamonds on either side.

Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara

Town and Country reported that the Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara was created for Queen Mary in 1914 by the House of Garrard, the royal jeweler, from pearls and diamonds already owned by her family.

According to the Court Jeweller, Mary commissioned the piece and said she "sacrificed a tiara from her own jewelry collection, the Ladies of England Tiara, to make it." Queen Elizabeth then reportedly loaned the Lover's Knot Tiara to Princess Diana as a wedding gift in 1981.

Kate Middleton inherited the tiara, and she has made it clear that it is one of her favorite pieces of jewelry yet. It is a gorgeous and regal piece of jewelry and certainly fit for a future queen.
