Gregory Salcido, a teacher at the El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera, California, has come after fire after a video of him calling the U.S. Military "the lowest of the low" went viral.  He has since been laid off from his position at the school.

According to Whittier Daily News, the incident took place during a history class. Salcido reportedly noticed a student wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the US Marines logo, which prompted Salcido to call the Marines "the lowest of the low."

"Think about the people who you know [in the armed forces], your freaking stupid Uncle Louie or whatever! They’re dumb [idiots]!" Salcido ranted. "They're not academic people, they're not intellectual people!"

Unbeknownst to Salcido, a student recorded the rant and showed it to members of his family, who later posted it to social media. Many in the community called for Salcido to resign, but the he refused to do so and instead decided to stand by what he said, doubling down on his remarks while talking to Los Angeles Times:

"I don’t think it’s [shocking] to anybody that those who aren’t stellar students [typically] find the military [to be] a better option," Salcido said.

Salcido has since had his position as an educator at the school terminated. As well as his recorded rant, the school is reported to have found illicit photos on his computer (which he attempted to delete) and is believed to have used racial slurs when addressing students. Steve Hummel, owner of the Fremont-based Paradox Technology and the expert to have conducted a report on Salcido's case, wrote:

“History shows Mr. Salcido will not stop his unacceptable behavior no matter what discipline the district uses on him. Mr. Salcido places his students in physical and emotional danger with his behavior. Removing Mr. Salcido seems to be the only way to protect the students.”
