Teachers are a special breed of people and Kerry Bremer is a shining example of this truth.
The special education teacher in Massachusetts went well beyond the call of duty when she adopted her 14-year-old student with Down Syndrome after his mother lost her life to cancer. Jean Manning and her son, Jake, moved to Massachusetts and immediately connected with Jake's teacher, Kerry.
As they all continued to get closer, it was obvious that there was a special connection between Kerry and Jake.

Kerry, 52, did not hesitate to offer her assistance if Jean was not able to care for her son any longer. Kerry said that she was willing to be Jake's legal guardian because she knew that none of Jean's family would be able to give Jake what he needed.
Because Kerry knew that Jean was worried about what would happen to Jake after cancer took her life, she wanted to put her mind at ease as she battled the disease.
Jake was a natural fit with Kerry's family. In addition to her supportive husband, Kerry's family also includes three children. In the time leading up to Jean's passing, Jake spent a significant amount of time with the family, even staying at their house overnight for sleepovers.
Jean sadly took her last breath on November 13. Jake moved in with the Bremer family on the same day reports TODAY Parents. The family is now committed to making sure that Jake feels the presence of his mother even in her death.
