Sulking Grandmother Unleashes Drama At Gender Reveal Party After Finding Out It's A Boy

Jun 28, 2022 by apost team

In the past few years, gender reveal parties have become the subject of speculation on how many great pregnancy celebrations have become. Where there used to be a similar announcement after learning the gender of the baby, the occasion now calls for much fanfare. There are specialty party favors, invented themes, professional photoshoots, and inevitably disappointed participants.

Usually, Tiktoks listed under the hashtag #genderrevealfail show viewers videos of wayward fireworks, ill-timed explosions, interrupting pets, escaped balloons, angry fathers being dusted in pink chalk dust, and occasionally foul-mouthed siblings. Sometimes, the hijinks and mishaps feature other family members who have gathered for the occasion, not expecting to find themselves in the path of a pinata bat or thematic bottle rocket.

In April 2022, Tiktok user Dani Florez shared a video of her recent gender reveal, which in addition to the standard pink and blue decorations, featured an ornery grandmother. Set to the gentle piano of Patrick Watson's "Je te laisserai des mots," the short video panned through a crowd of well-wishers who were hugging and cheering in the wake of seeing blue smoke emerge from the specially designed party-popper. Amidst their fanfare, an elderly woman shook her head and slowly made her way through the crowd towards a bench. She waves her hand dismissively, seemingly unenthused with the reveal. While drinks were opened and pictures were taken, the woman Florez -- revealed to be her grandmother -- pouted. She seemingly did not want the baby to be a boy.

Florez posted the video to Tiktok with the caption, "The contrast between everyone celebrating and then her." She also overlayed the statement: "core memory: my grandma getting upset after finding out we're having a boy, because she wanted a girl," over the video.

After the Tiktok went viral, Florez added a postscript to clarify, "she’s very happy! This was just her one-minute tantrum." Audiences nonetheless fell in love with the unashamed elder. One Tiktoker commented, "The way she’s dramatically lost in the crowd fighting her emotions." Another sympathized with the grandma, writing, "Grandmas start acting like little kids when they reach that age. It’s so cute, I loved seeing how chiflada mine got as she got older." Florez agreed, saying, "EXACTLY. Some people seem to not understand grandmas and old age, they love the attention... it’s so funny."

Given that 1.6 million viewers eventually saw grandma's "tantrum," and perhaps knowing not all of them would be as kind or empathetic, Florez further defended her. Offering an explanation of her reaction, she wrote, "Backstory: I told her I was going to name the baby after her if it was a girl! This is why she got upset...she was totally happy right after promise."

She commented, touching on her own reaction to grandma's storming off, saying, "Also! Just in case for those getting triggered.. I’m fine. It's not a big deal for us. She’s the best grandma in the world. It was hilarious for us." Luckily, Florez was unoffended.

She laughed off the incident alongside the internet. Once off-screen, the grandma was happy about welcoming a baby boy into the family. Although, some Tiktokers wanted more for the grandma, given she was so clearly excited for a baby girl. One commented, "Someone give her a granddaughter," to which Florez, again, laughed.
