When you avoid eating breakfast, you might find that you eat more food during the day. Those snacks that you end up eating are mostly full of sugar because your body needs the energy to get through the day that you didn't get from eating breakfast in the morning. Sometimes, you might engage in activities that aren't healthy for other parts of your body, such as smoking to take your mind off of food.

A study analyzed the habits of over 96,000 people. Almost 5,000 developed Type 2 diabetes because of their eating habits related to breakfast and the foods that they consumed throughout the rest of the day.

People who are overweight sometimes skip breakfast. Being obese is a component of diabetes that is sometimes difficult to manage if the person doesn't maintain a healthy diet. When someone skips breakfast and eats sweet foods during the day, then the person will likely continue to gain weight and put added pressure on various organ systems in their body.

When you eat breakfast, you usually have a drink to go with it, such as juice or milk. Coffee could be an option to consider as it has anti-inflammatory agents and antioxidants. Coffee can also decrease your chances of developing Type 2 diabetes.

Mattias Carlstrom is a teacher in Stockholm who has conducted research about coffee and how it impacts the body. Over 1,000,000 people were examined in 30 studies. The antioxidants in coffee are what aid in reducing the risks of developing Type 2 diabetes. When you drink coffee, it reduces inflammation in your body. If you drink it warm instead of cold, the higher temperature aids in speeding up your metabolism.

Women who drink coffee with breakfast tend to lower their chances of Type 2 diabetes by about 30 percent. Decaffeinated coffee delivers some of the same results but not as substantially as a regular cup of coffee. Men can lower their chances as well, but they usually have to drink more coffee during the day.

It takes about three cups a day to see the best results. Decaffeinated coffee is the best option for those who have heart problems and high blood pressure. Try to consume hot coffee if possible, avoiding a lot of the sugars and creamers that are often enjoyed in coffee as these add more calories to the beverage.

There are a few drawbacks to drinking so much coffee early in the day. There is no clear indication that people who drink only one cup of coffee should increase the amount in the morning or that people who don't drink coffee at all should start drinking coffee each day. Eating a healthy breakfast and exercising can lower your chances of developing diabetes if you don't want to several cups of coffee.
