Although we might not expect celebrity marriages to last, some star-studded couples have gone against the grain by sticking it through thick and thin.

Sting and his wife Trudie Styler are one such couple, having been together for 37 years old.

When a celebrity marriage actually works, people are always curious as to what factors played a role. Recently, Sting talked about his 37-year relationship with Trudie Styler. They were together for ten years before getting formally married. After being asked about what has held the couple together for almost four decades, Sting said:

“I know something about marriage,” Sting told ET Canada. “I’ve been married to Trudie for 27 years now. People say to me, ‘How has it lasted this long?’ I say, ‘Well, it’s kind of a miracle, but we don’t take it for granted.’”

“We’re friends, too. We love each other, but we actually like each other — and that’s an important distinction there. Love is passion and all of that stuff, but actually liking somebody and enjoying someone’s company is something slightly different, and it lasts longer. So you can have both, and I think that’s important. Be married to your best friend.”

Admittedly, their relationship had a rather odd start. Trudie was best friends with Sting’s first wife, Frances Tomelty. Sting and Frances were married for eight years and had two children together before divorcing.

Trudie lived next door to the couple in Ireland, and she and Sting started living together shortly after the birth of Sting’s second child and two years before his divorce was finalized. Trudie has stated she is not proud of her role in breaking up Sting’s first marriage and says she never intended it to happen, it just happened.

Sting and Trudie have four children together. Sting has admitted all six of his children were not planned, and he had never thought much about fatherhood or, apparently, paid much attention in sex ed class. However, he also said these “accidents” were the best thing ever, since “they’re all remarkable human beings.”

He opened up on how being a celebrity can sometimes make parenting difficult; trying to pick your kids up at school gets complicated when all of the other parents want an autograph.

Sting and Trudie are still in love and aren’t planning to call it quits anytime soon.
