Sources Claim Celine Dion & Lady Gaga Will Perform At 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony

Céline Dion is a legend in the music industry. Her unique vocal tone and impressive singing abilities catapulted her into a lifetime of fame and success, with a four-decade career. Céline’s discography has shown the trials and tribulations of relationships, from the most beautiful love stories to the hardest moments of heartbreak. 

Being in the spotlight for such a long time is sure to be taxing on anyone, especially someone already facing such hardship. Fans grew concerned for the star years back when she started losing weight, her powerful voice overtaken by her small frame.

The singer has been dealing with health complications for some time and had to cancel events following a heartbreaking announcement in December 2022. Céline shared the news that she had been diagnosed with a rare neurological disease called Stiff-Person Syndrome. 

During the announcement of her illness, Céline said her team of doctors was still learning about stiff-person syndrome, but they finally had some answers to her frequent spasms. She said that her condition had given her difficulties with walking and the use of her vocal cords. 

Dion experienced an outpouring of support and encouragement from her fans worldwide upon the release of her documentary, “I Am Celine Dion,” in June 2024. In it, she opened up about the struggles she's endured while dealing with the debilitating illness.

Over the past few months, there were growing rumors that Dion would mark her return to the stage at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. As the momentous occasion draws closer, many people are convinced that the music icon will be performing along with another esteemed global superstar. Dion has appeared sparingly in the public eye in the past few years. In May 2024, Dion released the trailer for her Amazon Prime documentary, “I Am: Céline Dion.” 

“I have to admit it’s been a struggle. I miss it so much. The people, I miss them. If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl. And I won’t stop. I won’t stop,” Dion said in the documentary trailer. 

Around this time, Today’s Hoda Kotb teased that she got to talk to Dion in an exclusive interview, which was eventually released on June 14, 2024. 

In the 42-minute emotional conversation with Dion, Kotb asked her questions that her loyal fans worldwide wanted to know. Dion said that hiding her illness from her fans was “too much” for her. 

“What do you want me to say? I have what? We did not know what was going on. I should’ve stopped and taken the time to figure out and taken the time like it’s not enough,” she said. “And lying, for me, the burden was too much. Lying to people who got me where I am today – I could not do it anymore.”

Dion described Stiff Person Syndrome, specifically the uncontrollable spasms, as if “somebody is strangling you.”

“It’s like somebody is pushing your larynx/pharynx this way,” she detailed. 

Since then, Dion has gradually returned to the public eye and conversation about her return to the stage has gained momentum. 

Although she still experiences difficulties, Dion has maintained a positive outlook that she will overcome her condition. In fact, she is rumored to be performing at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics in France.

The Sun was one of the first few outlets to report on the possibility of Dion performing at the 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony. As the day has arrived, more and more clues connecting Dion to the occasion have emerged. 

On July 23, 2024, RTL reported that Dion was in “good physical shape” as she arrived in Paris, days before the opening ceremony on July 26, 2024. She was then spotted waving to her fans in front of The Royal Monceau. 

On July 24, 2024, Dion also posted photos celebrating her return to Paris on X, formerly Twitter. 

“Every time I return to Paris, I remember there’s so much beauty and joy still to experience in the world.  I love Paris, and I’m so happy to be back! Thank you to our wonderful friends at The Louvre! Celine xx…,” Dion captioned her photos at the Louvre. 

Similarly, The Guardian reported that Dion will be performing at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony with Grammy-winning singer Lady Gaga, where the two will allegedly be performing Édith Piaf’s “La Vie en Rose.” The Daily Mail reported that Gaga also arrived in Paris on July 23, 2024, and she blew kisses to her loyal fans in front of the same hotel as Dion.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron spoke to television channel France 2 and talked coyly about Dion’s involvement in the opening ceremony. 

“Apparently she has arrived in Paris, it’s great! I would be immensely happy if she could be at this opening ceremony, like all our compatriots,” Macron said, as quoted by The Guardian. “I will not reveal anything, what (opening ceremony director) Thomas Jolly and all his teams have prepared. There is also a surprise.”
