Sofia Villani Scicolone was born in Rome at a time when Italy was still a monarchy; she grew up to become an extremely beautiful woman and a talented actress, and her gorgeous looks seemed to have stopped with her, at least until we recently got to see a photo of her 9-year-old grandson. Genetics can be capricious, but fortunately for young Leonardo, the highly aesthetic features of Sophia Loren are clearly evident.

Loren has two children from her long marriage to Italian film producer Carlo Ponti, may he rest in eternal peace. She has been a widow since 2007, and she has somehow been able to retain her stunning looks, which have been passed onto young Leonardo. When this cute kid, who happens to be growing very tall like his father, appeared on an Instagram photo earlier this year, many of his mother's followers agreed that the Loren genes are strong with this one. Leonardo is the son of actress Sasha Alexander and Edoardo Ponti; while he shares just a little of his mother's looks, he resembles his grandmother quite a bit.

The sons of Sophia Loren are handsome men who look like their father; their own children look like them with the exception of Leonardo. People across Italy have been waiting for Loren's extremely attractive genes to become manifest, and that moment has clearly arrived to the glee of this legendary actress, who was quite the sex symbol in her day.

The acting career of Sophia Loren started after World War II; it only lasted a couple of decades before she retreated to family life, something that she always wanted to do. She was called upon to star in several films produced during the Golden Age of Italian cinema before crossing over to major Hollywood productions. She was close to returning to a full-time acting career in the early 1990s, but the legendary and enigmatic Italian director Federico Fellini, who wanted to cast Loren in a secret and final project, tragically passed away three years later after this announcement.

The stunning looks of Sophia Loren were cemented in 1957, when she played the part of Phaedra, a Mediterranean sponge diver who finds an ancient Greek sculpture on the film "Boy on a Dolphin." This was Loren's first English language movie, and the camera simply loved her as she emerged from the sea wearing a brown dress that clung to her golden skin. This was a time when the natural curvy look was preferred over the athletic physique, and movie audiences could not get enough from actresses such as Loren and Raquel Welch, who were both voluptuous and naturally sultry.

Loren's success on the silver screen prompted French film directors to scout for photogenic actresses, thus starting off a trend that continued for decades. While the Italian beauty faced strong competition from actresses such as Brigitte Bardot, Loren was considered to have been one of the world's most dazzling women. Her gene pool is largely Italian and Austrian, and people all across Italy hoped that she would one day give birth to a daughter; such was not the case, but her looks have been clearly inherited by Leonardo.
